Agnes took a startled step back unable to look away from the familiar face before her.
The longer she looked the more she began to see that this girls face though similar had some differences to that of her stepdaughter.
The smile that graced her face showcased prominent dimples in each cheek. Her nose was also slightly more narrow where Sang's was button.
"Who are you?" Agnes demanded straightening her shoulders folding her arms across her chest.
"Where am I?" she asked in her most demanding tone.
The girl simply stared at her with a enigmatic look not intimidated by her show of bravado. "What is the last thing you remember Agnes?" she asked her head tilted to the side in curiosity.
Taken aback at being questioned Agnes nonetheless took a moment to think over the question.
" I was in the hospital" she said "The damn doctor wanted to take more tests as if there was anything else that could be done" she snorted in derision.
She thought some more and a gentle look passed over her face as she continued. "My daughter Marie came to visit she had just left when I got a horrible pain in my head " she paused absently touching the right side of her head. Narrowing her eyes she focused trying to remember more but drawing nothing but a blank.
The fact she couldn't remember filled her with fear and frustration. Needing to regain control she looked down at the girl before her demanding in her harshest tone " Where am I and who are you?"
"I had wondered when we finally met face to face if you would recognize me" the girl said in a voice eerily similar to Sang's. It wasn't that they sounded exactly alike. Sang's voice was soft with a slight rasp to it while this girls voice was surprisingly deep and steady but there was something about the cadence and the way they pronounced certain words...
"I specifically asked that when your time came that I was the first person you met" she said in a tone that made a chill run down her spine.
"You may not know me but I know you very well" she continued "I've watched you closely through the years" the girl said her eye's starting to darken in anger.
"I felt walking you through this your final transition was the least I could do for the woman that has taken such tender care of the most precious thing on earth to me" her voice taking on a almost mocking tone.
With a growing sense of dread Agnes licked her lips nervously and said " Your mistaken you gave me nothing to care for. I've never met you before and what do you mean final transition. What transition?" Her voice growing louder with every sentence.
At Agnes outburst a look of calm amusement filled the girls face as she answered " Agnes Sorenson I will tell you what you need to know about your transition soon enough"
Then much to Agnes surprise she took the last step forward closing the small gap between them.
" I can assure you that though we've never met before you know of me" her eye's filled with anger and despair as she continued " I can assure you I gave you something or should I say someone precious and irreplaceable" her eye's filling with tears.
It took a moment for the implications of what she'd just said to filter through the confusion she was feeling. As it did Agnes's face filled with disbelief and fury " You!" she snarled.
" Yes me" the girl said in disdain " allow me to introduce my self my name is Greta Sorenson. Sang's mother and I've wanted to meet you for a long time".
