Quick heads up I've chosen to call Agnes's doppelganger It so that the interactions between her and Agnes are less confusing. But I promise by the end of this chapter she will have a name.
"Who told you to go out Sang" It asked jerking the arm still locked in it's grip. The move waking Agnes from her shocked state.
"I'm not Sang" Agnes cried renewing her efforts to break free from this thing standing before her.
She watched as It's face twisted into a look of disbelief.
" Your not? Then who are you?" It asked voice laced with sarcasm.
Agnes opened her mouth to answer but the words refused to come. Her mind was spinning trying to process what was happening. All she could do was continue staring in horror shaking her head in denial.
" That what I thought" It replied snorting in disgust " Out whoring yourself again" shaking it's head and flinging Agnes's arm away as if she had been touching something dirty.
"I won't be disrespected" It growled stalking past Agnes into the kitchen.
Immediately Agnes began to hear the sound of cabinet doors opening and closing and finally the sound of something spilling out onto a hard surface.
While Agnes was alone she decided now was the time to run for it. Moving quickly she sprinted to the front door and turned the handle. The door swung wide open freedom a literal step away.
As she made to cross the threshold her head was tugged back. A painful burning sensation raced along her scalp as the hand holding her hair tightened.
"Where do you think your going?" the voice behind her hissed "You really thought you could get away from me without taking your punishment"
With that Agnes was forcefully slammed against the still open door. A slight gust of wind blew through the doorway taunting her with how close she was to freedom.
Looking into the face of her captor she again found her own face staring back at her. It's face a mask of pure rage and to her terror eyes that were once brown had turned a deep red.
" I keep telling you there's nothing out there but degenerates ." It's gaze sweeping her from head to toe " You were born filthy the blood of a whore runs through your veins" she continued in a tone both matter of fact and pitying.
"Every man you encounter can see it on you .Smell it on you" It said " Without my protection you'd be nothing but fresh meat to a pack of wolves. Do you want to be eaten alive? "
Then a look of calculation crossed It's face and Agnes again found herself in the doorway facing out.
" Look! " It commanded. Agnes didn't notice anything at first she saw the mailman going house to house delivering mail and a group of men who looked to be in their thirties surrounding a car with it's hood up.
"I don't understand what do you want me to see" she gritted out. The next thing she knew the hand holding her shoved her and she tripped out the door and down to one knee.
The moment she was past the threshold the hair on her arms stood on end and a chill raced through her causing goosebumps to form in their wake. Standing to her full height she felt multiple sets of eyes on her.
Looking around for the source she was completely unprepared for what she would find. The mailman stood a few houses down still as a statue his eyes glued on her. His stare was so intense Agnes had to turn away. The group of men were no longer looking at the car but staring with laser focus in her direction. As she took in their expressions she pressed a hand to her throat. Each man's face held an intense look of hunger. One of the men noticed her reaction and sent her a smile causing Agnes to cry out in alarm. Because the smile revealed pointy teeth shark like in appearance. Taking a step back she heard a dark chuckle behind her.
"Do you see now Sang " It said a amused smirk on her face "They look hungry should we feed them?"
When Agnes turned in the men's direction again she jumped startled to realize that the mailman had joined the group of men and they all had inched closer to her when she wasn't looking. As she began to back into the house the men let out snarling growls revealing they all had sharp jagged teeth. Teeth of predators animals that tear viciously into their prey.
Turning to run back into the house her way was blocked.
"Where do you think your going?" It asked innocently.
" B b back inside" Agnes stuttered looking back and forth between the doorway and the men who as one began to stalk across the street towards the house.
"Why? It's obvious you don't want to be here." It said leaning against the doorway seemingly unfazed by the men moving closer and closer.
"I try to protect you to save you from yourself and you continue to disregard my rules and throw all my efforts back in my face"
"What use do I have for such an ungrateful child." She asked mildly.
"Please" Agnes begged " Please let me in" her eyes still on the men who had now reached the lawn "I'll be good"
At her declaration It's expression turned into one of gloating triumph.
" I'll behave who?" It asked making Agnes's turn to face her.She studied her copy in confusion not knowing what she was missing. When all of a sudden she felt a nail scratch down her arm. Swinging around she started to again back away to the door only stopping when she felt It's body flush against her blocking the way inside.
Standing before her stood the group of men and as she watched the leader lifted his hand fingers coated with her blood placing it into his mouth.
He closed his eyes on a moan and then looking at the others said " She's delicious".
"Mother!" Agnes yelled "Mother please let me in" she begged.
At those words just as the men were about to pounce It moved out of the way allowing Agnes inside just in time. Shaking from head to toe cradling her injured arm Agnes made it to the living room before her legs gave out causing her to sink into a heap on the floor.
"Now " It said "don't you have something to say to me Sang" It asked standing over a shaken and defeated Agnes.
Through trembling lips her head bowed she replied "Thank you Mother".
"Your welcome Sang" the monster now named mother replied.
"Now follow me to the kitchen. You still have a punishment waiting"
As mother walked away Agnes took a long look at the closed front door. A sense of complete hopelessness and defeat wrapping itself around her like a blanket.
Mother was right she wouldn't leave the house again.
