Heylee POVMy alarm went off letting me know it was time to get ready for work. I look at my phone and reach for my phone and feel a little disappointed.
There is no messages.
After showering and dressing, I move to dads room and see that he is still asleep. I kiss him goodbye, careful not to wake him and leave quietly.
I put my headset on and begin walking to the bakery.
This morning felt off.
Usually I am ready to start making rolls and cookies but instead, I'm glued to my phone. Waiting for a text message from Steve.
I feel like if I don't get a message something is wrong. Like he could be hurt or in trouble.
The past few months have been tough. After Steve left that morning, I called him to tell him that I wanted him in my life, even just to say hello. We don't talk about his missions with SHIELD, I just wanted to know how he was. How he was fitting in DC and in to remind him to take time for himself.
I felt the less I knew about his missions, the better. I still have nightmares about the attack on New York.
Its been a few days since I've spoken with him. Last he spoke of a guy named Sam. They both had a race around the monuments and became friends immediately. He also mentoned a woman in his building named Sharon. I can't lie, I am Jealous that she gets to see him everyday, but I don't let it show that it bothers me.
Today went by as a normal day. The morning rush for sandwiches, the after school rush for sweets.
At around a quarter to five, the door opened and I couldn't help but smile as I rush from behind the counter.
"Heylee!" It's Kascey. She yells for me as she see's me rush to her with open arms.
I kneel on the floor and hug her tight. Her wheel chair looks nice and updated with new technology, thanks to Mr. Stark for upgrading her chair. The other one was destroyed in the explosion.
" Wow! I'm so happy to see you Kascey." I praise her and then get up to hug her mom, who I've learned her name was Amy.
We have met up shortly after the events of New York, once dad told me that Kasceys parents wanted to thank me personally. I had took the bus to Staten Island to meet them.
I found out that Kasceys school was on a field trip to the Ripleys museum and the bus driver was trying to find an alternative route during the attack.
" Thank you for coming to see me." I praised them both, then Kascey tugged on my hand and brought my attention back to her.
" Well he said you had the best Cannoli's at the bakery. Whats a Cannoli?" the little girl asked, looking up at me for the answer.
" Whose 'He'? " I look up to Kasceys Mother.
" Steve wrote us an email to visit the bakery, that you would love the company. I hope we are not imposing."
I smile. How thoughtful it was for Steve to send a letter to Kasceys mother. I had mentioned to him last time we spoke wondering how Kascey was doing.
" Not at all. I'm so happy you're here. Come on, you can pick anything from the case."
After a cup of tea, an hour of talking about Kasceys new school and several Rainbow cookies Kascey picked out from the case( Picture above) the family gave me hugs goodbye and promised to visit soon.
Closing the bakery, I made it home to make spaghetti for dad. Lately his appetite was small, and I figured I should make a heavy meal so he can keep in his calories. He lost a bit of weight since his last doctors visit.
