As soon as Steve was gone, EMT's enter the room. Rushing in to get the Agent the help he needs.
Sharon and I sit together in the ambulance as the sirens warn the cars that we are moving fast. I hold the mans hand and I beg him to hold on. That we were almost there. That he wasn't alone.
We get to the hospital and Sharon pulls me aside and I watch them wheel the man down the hall.
" Tell me what went on in there." She asks firmly. The sweet woman from the hallway is gone and the warning from Nick makes me shake.
Dont...Trust..Anyone. His voice still echoed in my ear.
" I...It...Well.."
" Where is he?" Steve in next to me and he locks eyes with Sharon.
"They are moving him to surgery." Sharon says and we rush to a viewing room. I see the man who was bleeding in my arms lie on a table with people shouting numbers and instruments.
Natasha rushes in and is stunned. She must be very close to this man for her to be this emotional.
" Is he gonna make it?" She asks.
Steve sighs. "I don't know."
It is quiet. Only the sound of the mans heart beeping through the window.
"Tell me about the shooter." Nat insisted on knowing.
Steve tells her who he saw. How he was strong and fast, and how his arm was made of metal.
Several people come in and i'm feeling the air get thinner. I need to get out. I step outside and take several deep breaths. Quickly deciding to take a seat down the hall.
I didn't realize how much time went by. I was lost in my own thought. The night replayed in my head. Almost in slow motion.
There is a rumor going on with other Shield Agents in the hallway that Fury had gone rogue. I'm assuming Fury was Nick's last name.
Rogue? Like he betrayed Shield?
I remember a split second before the bullet hit Nick, that he turned and looked my way. One bullet hitting his shoulder, two more hitting his chest and side. If he was an inch to the right, one of those bullets would have hit me before Steve could have had a chance to stop it. Had Nick known? Did he save my life?
"Hey." Steve crouched down to my eye level and held my hand.
" is he alive?" I whisper but I don't look up to him. My eyes are glued to a tile on the floor.
He shakes his head no. " He didn't make it."
He notices my shaking and wraps his jacket around my shoulders.
"Come on, They want me back at SHIELD." He says and helps me up from the chair.
" I'd don't want to be in the way." I say but my voice is quiet.
"You are not leaving my side till I know whats going on." He says, and we walk with several agents to black SUV's and we make it to SHIELD within minutes thanks to the flashing lights.
We stay on the main floor. Agents move with us till we are in a corridor. The layout has several turns and I feel like if Steve wasn't holding my arm I would have fell over from being so dizzy.
Steve turns to the men and insisted he cleans up and changes. They nod and offer him one hour to get ready. He opens the door and moves the both of us inside.
We are in a room with a bed and a bathroom. My things happen to be there already. Steve must have asked they be brought here. The room is not warm like Steve's apartment, for the two minutes I was in it. This room felt cold and hollow, almost like a prison.
