I watched as the hills rolled on past. Its been almost 12 hours since we left the rodeo and the same amount of time that I texted Tatum back. When I told Jordan that I wanted to go home, even I was surprised that those words came out of my mouth. I haven't been home in three years. My real home. The place that used to be filled with laughter and so much more until things turned for the worse.
I have seen all three of my brothers, but it was either when I was passing by because of rodeos, major holidays, and birthdays. It's funny to think that we were all born in September. We used to joke around growing up saying that we were all either quadruplets or two sets of twins. You have no idea how many people fell for that.
Gage and Rhett have always looked alike though. They both had almost black hair, freckles, green-blue eyes, and were very tall. But Rhett was way more tan than Gage, and their personality was way different. They looked alike but weren't exactly alike.
Colter, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. He had blonde hair, brown eyes, and very mischief filled child. Growing up, Gage convinced almost everyone in the whole town that Colter was adopted. But my family set that rumor aside since it wasn't right.
I smiled at the memories. I wasn't going home to see them; I needed to go back to straighten some things out hopefully. I don't know what I'm trying to figure out. I just have a feeling that it may be a good idea.
Jordan's voice rang through my thoughts, "We're gonna be there in an hour," She gave me a glance and then put her eyes back on the road, "Are you positive that you want to do this?"
No, I wasn't positive, but I'm not about to tell her that. "Yes, I am. I need to see Sarah and check in the house." I said. She's going to kick my butt later. She just nodded her head and turned up the radio. Some more George Strait 'I Cross My Heart' kicked on, and I loved it. My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I looked down to see what it was.
T: Is everything okay?
It was Tatum. I was startled by the message. I don't know why though, maybe because he didn't text back until now.
A: Yes, everything is fine.
Everything was not fine. I saw Hunter again within three weeks, and I have no idea why.
T: That isn't very convincing Ams.
Did he just call me Ams?
A: Why did you just call me that?
T: Because Jordan called you that and I thought that we were at least friends. I can just call you Amber if you want. When will I get to see you again?
Honestly, the only people I let call me that is Jordan and my brothers. Am I okay with him calling me that though? It sounds comforting to hear him call me that.
A: It's alright, just caught me off guard a little. And I don't know when you'll see me again.
T: Well, when is your next rodeo?
"When's our next rodeo Jord?" I ask her. She just shrugs her shoulders. I guess this spontaneous trip to home messed up our schedule.
"We're here."
My heart just stopped. I looked up and saw the familiar fields, houses, and little businesses. I looked at the time and realized that we could probably have some food right about now.
"Let's stop at Pop's," I said, and Jordan smiled. Pop's is the go-to diner in small-town Uintah. We pulled into the small parking lot. The horses would be okay for no more than a half hour. We walk into the little diner and instantly I saw many familiar faces, including Ole' Pop.
"Amber! Jordan!" Pop exclaimed with joy. We both smiled.
"Hi Pop," Jordan said, and we gave him a small hug.
"The usual?" he asked, and we both nodded. I'm amazed that he remembered. We sat down in one of the booths and waited for our order. Pop's was the best diner in town. Everyone loved it, one of the best parts was the old jukebox that when we were in high school always went over and enjoyed dancing to it even though it was about 50 years old now.
Pop set our orders down, and we thanked him. I was just about to dig into my delicious looking chicken sandwich when my phone buzzed again.
T: There's a rodeo down in St. George, Utah. Jake and I were going to that one. Will you be there?
"Hey Jord, were we planning on going to the St. George rodeo?" I asked.
"Sure, we can go to that one," she said. I nodded my head and texted Tatum back.
A: Yes, we will be there.
T: (:
I set my phone down and had about two bites of my sandwich when someone called my name.
"Amber Diane Jennings!"
Oh crap. I looked up at the face that was 'greeting' me.
"Hi, Sarah," I said. They look she was giving me probably would've had me buried six feet under. I'm in some deep shit.
