Percy Jackson: Guardian of the Hunt

Chapter 6

We walked for the rest of the day with them shooting monsters, and me lagging behind in pain. Artemis must've noticed my condition, and how I got worse and worse during the entire time that we walked.

"Okay girls and guy lets camp here for the night, and we'll move on in the morning" she said and I collapsed on the floor, and rested on my back trying to ignore the pain that is going all through out my body. I saw that it was getting darker, and I looked at the darkening sky in horror. Then it felt like my body was slowly breaking, and I let out an earsplitting scream as my body shifted. grew in height and I formed a long black muzzle, a tail, paws, and lots of fur all along my body. I started to get bigger and more wolf like, and after what felt like a century of pain. It stopped and I felt stronger, bigger, faster and better in every way. I looked at my body and saw that I was silver with blue patterns on my fur that looked like flames and water. I walked around getting used to everyone's smell then I smelled something different, and I knew that I was smelling other demigods and close by. I stayed where I was looking at the others now sleeping, and then I saw glittering eyes in-front of me, and close to the others. Too close, I ran at the other wolf and tackled it to the ground pinning it in it's side with my paw. It didn't fight back or growl, and this got me confused.

"Why don't you fight back" I asked it in a much deeper voice than I had, but I still sounded the same to me.

"You are my king" it said "if I fought back it would be a death sentence, and you are three times bigger than any wolf that I've seen. In fact I think that you'll even exceed Lupa as you grow" I was surprised and humbled at the same. I knew that I felt a connection to this wolf, and now it was confirmed.

"It was a big mistake to come near my hunters" I said "don't ever do that again, or you won't be alive the next time that we meet" and the wolf nodded with his eyes looking at the ground. Then I got off of the wolf and when I did I noticed that I left a paw shaped mark in his side , but he got up, bowed and left. I let him go while I returned and slept in the middle of the camp for the night, but I still felt sorry for what I had done to him accidentally. I was awoken by the sound of an arrow snapping and a little pinch in my side, but it didn't hurt or bother me at all.

"Hi Thalia" I said and then I heard a thump, and I looked over to see that she had dropped her bow.

"I'm so sorry Percy" she said "I thought that you were a--"

"Monster" I finished "yeah I shifted while you guys slept" I stood up and grabbed her bow with my mouth. Then I lifted my head to be level with hers, and noticed that she looked horrified. She took back her bow, and then her gaze started to wander.

"NO" she suddenly yelled, and I felt something fall off my back, and then I heard running steps as I looked to see a startled hunter with a knife in their hand.

"Thalia I was just about to get rid of it" she said, and I noticed that she smelled like Phoebe.

"She wasn't going to let you Phoebe" I said looking at her, and to be safe from any other surprises. I went to the edge of camp, and watched as everyone got out and then go their bows out and pointed arrows at me. Then they whistled and I felt someone on my back, so I looked up to see Artemis on my back pointing an arrow at my face.

"Wow Artemis your pretty fast" I said to her and she looked shocked and lowered her bow letting loosing the string, but keeping the arrow at ready. Then she got down and motioned for the girls to lower their bows, but one arrow got loose and slammed into my fur breaking into pieces and dropping to the ground. Then I looked at the person that shot it and saw that it was either an accident or on purpose because she looked at me in shock.

"Do you guys really not recognize your own Guardian" I said and started to shift back into a human and when I was done I looked at them still shocked about something.
