Once upon a time, a naive siren (as taught in the Greek mythology class you took) or let's call it– mermaid dwelled in the depths of the cold Arctic Ocean. She fell in love at the first sight of Prince Charming who was then sailing aboard a lavish passenger liner renowned as "Titanic" among land creatures.
On that one rough, stormy night, the prince was accidentally thrown overboard and he could not even swim to save his life. Just when he was about to drown, the mermaid took the prince back to shore.
Little did the she knew, Prince Charming was originally destined a happy-ever-after with the oops-my-glass-slipper-fell-on-the-stairs-Cinderella but unfortunately, the mermaid already sold her soul to the devil before anyone could try and stop her.
A trade of her bewitching voice for a pair of long, slender legs to walk the Earth instead of an enchanting tail with rainbow-coloured scales and the capacity of her lungs to breathe underwater was successfully made. Mermaids are in the same taxa as marine mammals so sometimes, they do need to come up to the surface for air.
Long story short, the mermaid was brokenhearted when she found out later that Prince Charming was betrothed to Cinderella despite giving her hopes of marriage when she saved him. The mermaid who was in her human form pleaded the devil to change her back.
She refused to disappear like the bubbles on the ocean surface like the ones before her. Mermaids only love once. If that "love" did not work out, they would be reduced to foam. The devil had one condition on which the mermaid had to kill the prince so she sank the "unsinkable" Titanic along with the prince in it. (p/s: True story behind the sinking of Titanic)
The mermaid got her pretty tail back and also the ability to shape-shift anytime she wanted between the elements of land and sea. She became half human girl and another half, mermaid.
Nevertheless, her beautiful voice was forever lost as it was used to sink a ship– sacrificing innocent lives thus Poseidon; the ruler of the seven seas condemned the Arctic Mermaid to live for all eternity, stripped of eloquence.
Now, here she is writing her thoughts to overflowing to make up for everything she failed to convey through her own dreaded lips.
As to why she murdered Prince Charming mercilessly even though she loved him would be due to the cold Arctic Ocean freezing her heart to its very core.
Love was the only colour– painting her heart red and when love was shut down, she could finally blend in to the surroundings of her home, as dark as it is blue.
The End
