It was Halloween night and I was very, very excited. Draco and I were currently enchanting the muggle decorations we had bought a few days prior to hang around the house. I had stepped outside to hang some decorations by hand while Draco attempted to wrestle Buchanan into a Dracula outfit. Through the window, I could see him succeed and turn to Duchess who tried to run away. I laughed to myself as I threw fake cobwebs over our front door and window frames. Heading back inside, I caught Buchanan as he made a break for the door and lifted him up to face me. With a look of indignation, Buchanan licked my nose and I laughed, kicking the door shut behind me before putting my cat down on the floor. Draco had successfully pulled a loose dress over Duchess' neck that rested down her back. Neither of our cats was best pleased by our choice of outfit but I could tell that they weren't uncomfortable, Duchess even seemed to be warming up to hers. I headed into the kitchen, Draco following behind me as I filled a large plastic novelty bowl with muggle sweets.
"What are 'Hah-ree-bow'?" asked Draco and I snorted as I opened a packet.
"F-fir-first I think i-it's pro-pronounced 'Haribo' and s-sec-secondly--"
Instead of actually finishing my sentence, I just shoved a Haribo love heart into Draco's mouth and ordered him to chew it. He did so reluctantly before realising that he was actually quite enjoying it and reached into the open packet I was holding for another one. Draco pulled out a gummy ring and held it up to me.
"Open."
I did as he asked and he placed it on my tongue. I grinned and chewed as he kissed the tip of my nose. My boyfriend stole the plastic bowel from me and poured in some muggle chocolate bars, stealing a Mars bar to try. The sky outside was beginning to deepen into a blue and I checked the time. It was only 6pm.
"Can I g-g-get dress-essed yet?" I asked Draco, following him into the hallway.
He checked his watch and nodded.
"Go for it!"As I pulled my dress on and zipped it up at the back, a dolphin patronus came hurtling into my bedroom. Shit.
"Lee!" squealed Elisa.
"El? Is ev-ev-everything okay?"
Her patronus looked frantic, however I couldn't place why. It almost didn't seem nervous, it seemed... excited. Suddenly, Elisa squealed again and I felt a tug at my lips - nothing was wrong.
"The baby's kicking!"
I had no words to explain how I felt. Suddenly, everything was real - Elisa really was pregnant. All I could do was squeal before I yelled for Draco. I could hear Draco hurtling up the stairs before he threw the door open.
"Is everything okay?" he asked, slightly breathless.
I nodded towards Elisa's patronus, allowing it to do the talking. As I heard Elisa expain for the second time I could feels tears prick my eyes. This baby was going to be so well loved, so well looked after, even if it was going to be raised during this godforsaken war.We stayed talking to Elisa for a while, the latter part of our conversation turning to the Death Eater attack the month before. We assured her we were fine and she reluctantly believed us but I could tell from her tone of voice that she was worrying. It was a knock on the front door that drew us away from Elisa, bidding her goodbye before hurrying down the stairs. Draco pulled open the door as I grabbed the bowl of muggle sweets.
"Trick or treat!!" yelled the small children at the door and I grinned, offering them the bowl.
I commented on each of their outfits: there was a small girl dressed as a black cat, another girl as a witch and two boys as matching mummies. They waved goodbye to us and Draco shut the door, turning to face me.
"I l-l-love Hal-Halloween!" I exclaimed, reaching up on my tiptoes to give Draco a kiss.
He chuckled before bowing his head and meeting my lips. We were quickly interupted by another knock at the door and I squealed as I pulled it open.
"Trick or treat!!" cried the children and I grinned.
This time there was five of them, three boys who must have been around 6 or 7 each dressed as a different muggle football player and behind them stood a teenage boy, around my age who was holding a baby girl who was dressed as a pumpkin. The teenage boy was dressed as a vampire, all that was visible his curly hair and shocking blue eyes. I smiled at him as I passed each of the children a sweet and he grinned at me, thanking me as he turned to push the children down the path. I closed the door when they reached the end of the path and turned to face Draco. He smiled down at me and I smiled back. I was slowly falling in love with this muggle tradition.
