Christmas, 1999. It had been just like the year before. I had fond memories of last Christmas. It was the first time we were all together again and we were all happy. Early this morning, Draco and I had been awoken by Juliet and Joshua launching themselves onto our bed. I grinned at them, my eyelids heavy and I saw a half asleep Ron edge his way in and carry out his giggling toddlers. Just as I had rolled over and rested my head against Draco's chest I heard an exasperated sigh from outside the door and suddenly the twins were back on the end of our bed. At this we had got up, each of us taking one of the twins and heading downstairs to see Elisa and Ron making drinks. Everybody had arrived a few hours after this and we had all exchanged presents, followed by a glorious meal.
It was now, after everyone had left and the twins had been put to bed that Draco and I sat downstairs with Ron and Elisa. Draco shared a look with Elisa as I stood up and stretched, heading towards the kitchen. But then Draco called my name. Turning around I saw Draco on one knee, a small box in his hand and I gasped, Ron and Elisa grinning broadly from behind him as he opened it.
"Draco," I murmured and he gripped my hand with his free one.Gravity don't mean too much to me, I'm who I've got to be.
"Ophelia Wren Avondale, you have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember," began Draco and I felt myself beginning to tear up.
These pigs are after me, after you.
"From when we were two years old and I snorted pumpkin juice out of my nose and cried for two hours straight," continued Draco and I chuckled tearfully, remembering the moment he meant. "Or to the time when we were twelve and I... and I saw my father... hit my mother for the first time. You have always been there for me."
Run away, like it was yesterday and we could run away, if we could run away, run away from here.
"What I mean to say Ophelia is that I love you and I honestly couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life with anybody else. So with that said, Ophelia Wren, will you be my wife?"
I couldn't move, I couldn't speak. Tears were falling rapidly down my face and I too had dropped to my knees. Taking Draco's hand in both of mine, I nodded and grinned.
"Yes, ye-yes Draco Malfoy, I wi-will be your wi-wife!"I've got a bulletproof heart.
A few drinks had followed in celebration of mine and Draco's engagement but now I was cuddled up to him, Ron and Elisa also having gone to bed. I was staring at my ring, the emeralds glinting in the soft light.
"Thank you, Ophelia," whispered Draco and I shook my head.
"F-for what? I sh-should be th-than-thanking you, fiance," I grinned at him and he patted his lap from under the covers.
"Come here, future Mrs Malfoy."
I rolled over onto Draco's lap and sat up, leaning down for a kiss. Capturing my lips in a kiss, Draco's hands came to rest on my hips and I grinned. Draco reached for his wand on the bedside table and I sat up, smirking at him. Well, if we were getting married, it might be time to start a family too. Before Draco could cast the spell, I pushed his wand out of his hand and began helping Draco out of his shirt. My heart raced as I thought about what might come from this. We were only nineteen but we could do this, I knew we could. We had been through so, so much worse.I've got a bulletproof heart.
