I heard Elisa groan in pain and I hurried towards the bathroom. Something was definitely wrong. I knocked lightly on the bathroom door s I reached it, nervous for my best friend.
"El? Y-Y-You ok?" I asked, my worry building.
"Lee--" Elisa groaned, clearly in a lot of pain. "Lee, it's... Its happening!"
I tried to respond but I just couldn't form any words. Luckily, Elisa piped up again from the other side of the door.
"Can you get one of Ron's jumpers and a pair of tracksuit bottoms, Lee? They're in my top two drawers," she asked through deep breaths and I hurried off to her bedroom.
It was a few minutes before I came back and I hated the fact that I had left my best friend alone for so long. I saw Draco leaning against the wall and suggested he turn away for a second while I handed Elisa her clothes. I knocked and heard Elisa shuffled across the room before suddenly the door swung open.
"Thanks. Never have kids, Lee. I'm begging you," she joked and I smiled a little.
Taking the clothes from me, I floated anxiously as she dressed herself before stepping into the hallway. By the look on her face, I assumed she was painfully awaiting her next contraction. Catching sight of Draco, they stared at each other for a second as Draco frowned.
"I can't... I can't do it, Draco. I can't be a mother. Not yet," whispered Elisa shakily and Draco pushed himself off of the wall.
"Yes, you can, Ella. Ever since you got over the initial shock, you already were a mother. You've been so excited."
I felt myself smiling as I realised just how good at reassurance Draco really was.
"I can't. I can't keep them sa--"
Elisa couldn't even finish her sentence as she let out a pained grunt and leaning against the wall, another contraction hitting her full force. Draco pulled her tightly into him and rubbed her back as she began to sob.
"Please don't leave me, Draco. I can't do this without either of you,"
The pain in my best friend's voice caused my heart to contract and I swallowed as Draco shook his head.
"We're not going to go anywhere, Ella," he reassured Elisa, rocking her softly. "Now, let's get to the hospital."
With a nod, Elisa allowed us to lead her to the door. Holy shit, it was really happening, Elisa was going to have her babies. We had been in the hospital room for a long time and Elisa was still no closer to actually giving birth. Doctor Sailor had tried to send her home, despite the fact that her waters had broken, however there was no way Draco and I were letting that happen. Elisa had then begged Draco to get Doctor Anderson - she told us she trusted him more. As she clutched onto me, I whispered softly in my best friend's ear to soothe her and I rubbed calming circles on her back. Elisa couldn't sit down, it was more painful than the pain she was in now. A patch of wetness was forming on my shoulder as Elisa sobbed but I didn't care, I would do anything for her right about now.
"Y-You're d-doi-doing so w-well, Elisa," I murmured, still trying to soothe her.
"I need Ron," she sobbed and it pained me to hear my best friend aching for one person so much. "he should be here."
I softly kissed the top of Elisa's head as she groaned through another contraction before attempting to reassure her.
"I kn-know. B-But I'm h-h-here an-and s-so i-is Draco. W-We're not l-leav-leaving you," I murmured softly into Elisa's hair.
A strangled scream escaped Elisa's lips and it caused me to pull her more tightly into me.
"I don't want a C-Section, please don't let them do one on me," she begged and I knew what my best friend was like when it came to the way she wanted to give birth.
I heard Doctor Anderson enter as I led Elisa over to the bed.
"I don't think we have to worry about that and by the sounds of things, what your friend has told me makes me think you're going in the right direction. I think, this time, we can avoid one."
Elisa seemed to calm down a little at this news and was able to explain a little more about how she was feeling to Doctor Anderson.
"I can't sit or lie down," began Elisa as she leaned her body weight into the bed. "the pain gets worse."
I sat myself down beside her and gently stroked my best friend's hair as the doctor knelt down before her.
"Can you perhaps get onto the bed on all fours, just so I can check how dilated you are? Then we can experiment different positions to make you as comfortable as we can," asked Doctor Anderson politely and I moved so that Elisa could have full use of the bed.
With a soft nod, Elisa repositioned herself and Draco crossed the room to stand beside me.
"I'd appreciate it if you stayed up this end from now on, Dracula," Elisa joked before laying her head on the pillow as another wave of pain washed through her.
Draco glanced at me with a smile before grinning at Elisa. "Kinda hard to do that with your arse in the air."
I rolled my eyes playfully at their antics just as Doctor Anderson announced that Elisa only had two centimetres left to go but did have to tell her that her contractions would be much worse now. Watching my best friend apprehensively, I saw her push out short, shallow breaths before looking over at Doctor Anderson.
"It just feels like one really long contraction. I need to push," she said, her voice cracking as she winced through another bought of inevitable pain.
"Elisa, it is very important that you do not push yet. You'll cause the cervix to swell. It could be hours before we get to the second stage if you push now," warned Doctor Anderson and it worried me slightly as I became suddenly aware of everything that could go wrong now.
Elisa nodded and groaned as the doctor guided her down onto her side but in seconds she was shaking her head.
"No. That makes it worse. But I'm so tired from standing up," she whimpered, reaching for my hand. "Please tell me it gets better."
"Just keep remembering that every contraction means you're nearer to meeting these two little rascals," Doctor Anderson attempted to reassure my best friend as I squeezed her hand softly. "Are you sure you don't want any pain relief?"
Elisa shook her head and the doctor nodded to himself before coming to tell me and Draco that if anything seems out of the ordinary to come and fine him. We assured him we would and I watched as he closed the door behind him, Elisa stroking her bump as she winced through the pain again, murmuring to the babies inside her. Frowning at Draco, I rubbed Elisa back and swallowed. She was in so much pain and she needed this to be over, these babies needed to arrive some fucking time soon.January the 9th, 1998. Nineteen hours later and there they were, Juliet Ophelia and Joshua Draco, in Elisa's arms. Elisa looked exhausted but nothing was more evident on her face than the pure joy she felt when she looked at her babies. Draco had teared up as soon as Juliet had been placed in Elisa's arms and my best friend had laughed slightly as she stared at the small bundle in her arms. As Joshua began to cry, Elisa handed Juliet to Draco and I saw everything change in my boyfriend's eyes. This was the Draco Malfoy I wished everyone could see, the kind-hearted, caring, loving boy that I was lucky enough to be dating.
"She has his eyes!" Elisa had gasped when Juliet had first opened her eyes.
I stood, Joshua in my arms, his large eyes staring up at me. While Juliet's eyes were undoubtedly Ron's, Joshua's were Elisa's - bright, wide and full of hope. It was in that moment that I knew, I was going to do anything and everything I could to protect these babies. As Juliet's godmother I would make sure that she had everything she needed, that she knew that I was always there for her when she needed anything. I wanted to make sure Joshua knew that too. Even though they weren't mine, these babies already meant everything to me and fuck me if I wouldn't do everything in my power to keep them and their mother safe.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
