Anika, I'm so sorry about last night baby. I was drunk and it was a mistake. Call me back.
Nika, come on baby. You know I wouldn't do that if I was sober! Call me.
Why are you ignoring me? How many times I gotta say I'm sorry?!
So you and Michelle just gonna go ghost on us? Answer this damn phone!
I was sitting in my room letting Michelle listen to all the messages Trey left on my voicemail, as well as listening to the one's Matt left on hers.
"Wow, he sounds mad." she said, laughing.
"You ain't lying. They both acting like we don't have a reason to be mad," I gave her back her phone because she was getting another call. "We ain't the ones that cheated at a graduation party last night. I hope that bitch Tremaine slept with get pregnant."
"Well, college starts in August and you know what? I think we should enroll somewhere else." She got up, grabbing her purse. "What about New York? We've always wanted to take a trip there."
She had a point. There's nothing left for us here anymore, and when we were younger, we did talk about going there a lot. It would get both of us away from them and we'd be getting an education still.
"Alright, I'll look into it. Where are you going?" I asked her. She had gathered up all her stuff getting ready to leave.
"I'm going to pack so I can get a move on and leave tonight. I kinda already told my parents about it last night. Let me tell you how mad they were, but it's my choice so they had to get over it."
"Tonight?! You're going to New York tonight?"
"Ya, you coming or not? I don't wanna be driving in a car by myself."
I ran my hands down my face. My parents, especially my mom, are going to flip. So much for staying in Louisiana where she could see me all the time. "Okay, I'll tell them. I have no choice but to tell them about Trey and I breaking up."
"I'll come pick you up in three hours then."
"Okay." I walked downstairs with her and watched her pull off before going back into the house to prepare myself. "Mama! Daddy!"
"What's up?" My dad was the first one to walk into the kitchen where I was standing. My mom came in two minutes later, hanging up her phone.
"I want to tell you both something, and you can't change my mind about this or talk me out of it. In all honesty, you're input isn't going to stop me either." I said, twiddling my thumbs together and not looking up to meet their questioning eyes.
"What's going on? What're you talking about?" My mom asked me, looking at my dad for answers. He just shrugged in response.
"Michelle and I have decided to go to college....in New York," I could see my mom about to protest. "Wait! Before you say anything, I'm doing this. I want to get out of Louisiana and try something new."
"And what about Trey? Matt?" My dad folded his arms across his chest. "You just gonna leave them behind?"
"We broke it off. They were only high school relationships anyway." I tried and succeeded in making my words sound strong. Truth is, I'm still hurt about last night and thinking about it...I just can't even though I joked about it this morning.
"Wow. That's..unexpected." My mom said, taking a breath. I'm in shock she didn't go off on me.
"You're not mad?"
"No, not at all. I mean, it's you're life and you're 18 now. You can make you're own decisions."
"Well, glad we had that talk. I'm leaving tonight." That got a reaction out of them.
"Are you serious?! What about spending time before you leave?!" My mom was throwing her hands in the air, and walking around like a mad man.
"Baby, calm down. Anika, why tonight?" My dad put a hand on her shoulder to keep her still.
"Why not leave tonight? I want to get a feel of the city and I've already told Michelle I was." I could see it in my dad's eyes that he didn't believe me on bit, but didn't question my motives.
"Well, if this is what's going to make you happy, do it." I walked around this table and hugged them both.
"I love you guys and I'll come visit a lot, I promise." That promise though, would be broken. At that moment, I didn't know I wouldn't come home for the next three years.
It was time for me to go, and believe me, it was heartbreaking seeing our parents faces as they waved us off.
"You ready to forget them?" Michelle asked once we were on the interstate.
"You have no idea. He's been cal-" My cell cut me off. I looked down to see none other than Trey calling again.
"Answer it and tell him to tell Matt it's over." I nodded.
"Hello?"
"Where the hell are you? Why haven't you answered your phone!?" Wow, that was such a nice greeting.
"First of all, I don't answer to you, Tremaine. The real question is why are you calling me? I have nothing to tell you."
"You have a lot to tell me! You know I didn't mean to cheat on you! I was drunk!"
"Don't blame this on anyone or anything other than yourself. You've been drunk many times but haven't cheated before, so go to hell. Oh, and it's over. Tell Matt the same."
"You can't do that!"
"I can and I am. Don't go to my house either, cause I left and I'm not going back."
"What the hell do you-" I hung up and put my phone on the charger. I stretched out and laid my seat back. Might as well get some sleep.
"It'll take us about two days to get there, so you're driving tomorrow." Michelle said.
"I'm fine with that." I yawned.
Okay, so that was basically a filler sort of chapter. I haven't updated in like what? A month? I'll most likely update again tonight or tomorrow. I have two weeks or so left of school so please be patient with me. There'll be a lot more updates in the summer.
