I woke up to hear knocking on the front door. I was still on the couch in my living room, where I had fallen asleep early this morning.
"Coming!" I called to whomever stood at the front door.
Upon opening it, I was greeted with three familiar faces.
"Ready to go?" Phil asked.
I let out a yawn. "Go where?"
"Downstairs, to see if we have anything to do today." Dan answered.
I most likely looked stunned to them. To be fair, I was still half asleep.
Sean smiled. "We are trying to crack down on The Crimson Killers Y/N."
"Oh, right." I replied. "Well, come on in while I get ready."
The three men stepped into my penthouse unit and sat down together in the living room. After seeing them settle in, I went into my bedroom, picked out my clothes for the day, then headed to the bathroom to get ready.
Once I was pleased with the way I looked, I returned to the living room. Upon my arrival, my three team members stood from where they sat.
"Ready to go mate?" Phil inquired.
I replied with a curt nod.
The four of us headed out of my penthouse unit and gathered in the elevator. It descended down multiple floors, until reaching the office where our boss resided. The four of us entered and took our seats at the desk.
She sat quietly, stirring her peppermint tea. The spoon scrapping against the sides of the teacup was the only sound apparent throughout the room. The stirring stopped, and she placed the spoon delicately on the small saucer. Gently grasping the handle, she lifted the teacup up to her mouth while raising her small finger, and took a sip. Placing the cup back down, she clasped her hands together and acknowledged the four of us in front of her.
"Good day to you all." She said, smiling.
"Good day, ma'am." Sean replied politely.
Her smile then faded into her usual business look. "Today, you shall all enjoy a day to yourselves. Y/N, clear your mind to prepare yourself for tonight."
Dan glanced quickly at me, then refocused his eyes on the boss. "Ma'am, I believe there is something that Y/N must share with you."
"Is there now?" She asked, turning her head towards me. "What would you like to share?"
I hesitated slightly. I thought about lying, as I was looking forward to tonight and would hate if the plans got cancelled. However, not telling the boss the truth could get nasty, and I particularly did not want to land myself on her bad side.
Clearing my throat, I began. "Well, last night I had a dream. A few years ago, my parents had died and I never remembered what happened. I had always assumed it was a car crash or something horrible like that. In my dream, it was all too real. The Crimson Killers invaded my home and killed my parents. The pictures of the members that you showed us last night refreshed my memory. It was all their doing."
She let that sink in, all the while staring into my E/C eyes. She shifted in her chair, and began speaking again. "So, you have history with this group?"
I nodded my head.
"Well, I trust you to make the right moves tonight. Just promise me, whatever you do, please do not allow your emotions to cloud your judgement." She said.
"I will keep my state of mind professional and professional only ma'am."
"Good." She concluded. "Now, go on out and enjoy your day. Please do not be late for tonight."
Dan, Phil, Sean, and I all gave curt nods as we stood up and exited her office.
The four of us left our headquarter building and stood outside on the sidewalk.
"Where should we go?" Sean inquired.
Dan cleared his throat. "I reckon we go take a walk by the River Thames."
Phil and I nodded in agreement, followed by Sean.
The four of us made our way to the river, and began walking along the walkway that was filled with joggers and enthusiastic tourists.
The air was crisp and fresh, and the wind blew gently, rustling the trees. It was a lovely day, and for a moment, I forgot that I was truly an assassin.
We walked in silence for a while, enjoying our surroundings. Phil suddenly spoke up.
"I am ready for some lunch. What do you say lads?"
"Same." Dan agreed.
"Me too." I piped in.
"Of course," Sean joined, "where should we go?"
"I know a place." Phil said, quickly turning on his heels.
Phil led the way through town as he searched for his lunch location. The three of us scurried along behind him, trying to keep up.
"Ah, there it is." He announced, pointing at a pub on the corner of the busy street.
"Looks good." I said.
We crossed the street and headed towards the front entrance of the pub. We were seated right away at a table in the bar area. Sean took a seat next to me, Dan and Phil sat across from us.
"Excuse me one moment, I will just be going to the washroom." I told them as I got up from my seat and headed towards the washroom sign on the opposite side of the bar area.
As I walked towards the woman's door, the men's door opened and a tall, muscular man with raven coloured hair and brown eyes strode out. As he walked past me, we shared a quick glance at each other, then continued our separate ways.
I entered the washroom and had to stop. My mind was going a mile a minute, trying to fit puzzle pieces together. Finally, I knew who that man was. It was Nathan Smith, a member of The Crimson Killers. But what was he doing here? The last time I saw him in person was when he helped shoot my parents. How had he not recognized me? Well, I assume that it is a good thing that he did not. Tonight might not be successful if he did.
I quickly finished what I had to and hurried back to the table. The three men looked alarmed when I sat down in such a rush.
"I was walking to the washroom, and I passed by Nathan Smith, member of The Crimson Killers. We looked at each other but he kept walking. I assume that he did not recognize me." I explained.
Dan quickly glanced around. "Where did he go?"
"I do not know, I went into the washroom so I did not see where he went." I replied.
"Oh well, we will get our chance tonight." Sean said.
Just then, the waiter came to our table and we ordered our lunch. My mind kept replaying my earlier encounter, preparing itself for tonight.
