3 ↠ robbers

I start to worry and grab out my phone.

It reads: One text from Chloe.

I click on the text and read it.

Chloe: There's been an emergency at home, I won't be able to come over after school.

My heart starts pounding. What kind of emergency can it be?

Chapter 3
|Chloe|

I shove my stuff inside my locker and start to walk outside. I glance down at my phone and see a text from my mom.

Mom: I'm out front waiting to pick you up. Something bad has happened and I want you at home.

I begin to panic. My mom never picks me up. I always walk home. The only time I've ever been picked up was earlier this week when we were robbed. Could it have happened again?

My legs feel shaky as I walk outside. My mind is rushing through possibilities, but I try to focus on reality.

I see my mom's silver car in the parking lot and quickly run over to it.

"Mom, what's wrong? Why are you picking me up?" I ask.

"We've been robbed again," my mom says worriedly.

It's the second time we've been robbed in the past week.

•flashback•

I woke up to the sound of the burglar alarm. My heart starts pounding.

"What's going on?" I think to myself.

I hear a noise downstairs and freak out even more. I get out of bed and run into my parents bedroom.

"Wake up! Wake up! There's someone in our house!" I yell at them.

My dad wakes up and tells me to go back to sleep and that he would take care of it.

I go back to my bedroom reluctantly, but trust him that everything's going to be okay. I hear him go downstairs but I don't hear the robber anymore.

I hear my dad come back upstairs a while later and come into my room. I pretended to be asleep.

My dad comes near me and whispers, "I called the police. The robber is gone. We are safe now."

•end of flashback•

"Chloe, I feel like someone in our neighborhood is trying to take everything," my mom says seriously.
