Watching each of his steps in ascension to the gallows was like seeing a step closer to her own death. Had they been so wrong in what they did? Of course they were wrong. As always, politics triumphed love in the war for social importance, but it hadn't won the war for her heart.
His head held high, her love finally turned to look upon her as the noose was slipped around his neck. As the black bag snuffed his face from view she almost fell from the dais. She couldn't do this. She couldn't allow this to happen to him. She trembled in her seat and looked at the man beside her, pleading with her eyes for what she could not say with her voice.
The man looked down at her, his blue eyes cold and pitiless."You knew the consequences," he said quietly. "You ruined your lives anyway."
