"Ana, give me your number," Lucy said while pressing her phone.
"011-56-55-453, got it?" I asked.
"Yeah," she said, busy with her phone.
"Make sure you call me," I said to her.
We went on talking about how the evening service turned out yesterday. She left me all alone at the balcony, when she was being called by her mom.
Surprisingly, my worst nightmare, Derek turned up and he couldn't find another place to sit than next to me.
"Hi." he said, putting on a sad face.
I ignored his greeting and looked away.
"I'm truly sorry about what happened yesterday. I didn't mean to reply in a rude way, it's just that I was so upset when I bumped into you. Please forgive me." His tone sounded so sincere.
I was moved by his words and I had no right to hold anything against him. By the way, he did what I never thought he could have done. Seeing the need to apologize for what he did made me realize he wasn't as bad as I rated him.
"I've forgiven you. At least you've apologized and that is just enough for me," I said.
That immediately triggered a bright smile to his face.
He stretched his hands for a handshake. "I'm Derek Anderson."
I put my hands on his. "I'm Lana Alsina. But you can call me Ana." I smiled like never before.
"Nice to meet you Lana, or should I say Ana." He chuckled.
"My pleasure, Derek," I said.
"So where are you from?" He asked. That was fast though.
"I'm from Melipilla in Chile, what about you?", I asked looking right at his face.
"It's happens we're from the same place," he said raising his right eyebrow while smiling.
"Oh really?" I was surprised.
"Sure. What brought you to Calama then?" He asked. It seems he's quite interested in getting to know me.
"My dad decided to put up his company here. That's why we had to relocate here," I told him while playing with my fingers.
I don't know why but I'm pretty shy at the moment.
"Nice one. Are you friends with Lucy?" He asked.
Is that a question? I thought.
"Yes. Well I met her 2 weeks ago. Just a few chats and then we were getting along with each other."
"That's great. She has said a lot about you," he said with a smile.
"Really? I hope they are good ones and not the naughty side of me?." I chuckled.
"Of course," he said giggling.
I heard choruses from the church reminding me I came here for the evening service.
"Oh, I've got to go now." I stood up trying to see if I can see Lucy.
"Okay," he said, staring at me with a look I couldn't get.
A young girl in an extremely red short dress with black heels and her hair tied up, walked in ignoring me but went straight to Derek.
"Sweetheart, I can't believe you're back. I had to come see you myself when I heard it. I missed you so much," she said to him while touching him in a seductive way.
Ana, don't pay attention to such things. Remember you're supposed to be in church, a voice reminded me. That got me right back to my senses and I remembered I wanted to inform Lucy I was leaving.
"Lucy...Luciana...Lucy..." I called out refusing to look their direction.
"I'm coming." Thank God she answered. Not up to a sec she came out.
"Don't tell me you're leaving now?" She asked, giving me a disapproval look.
"I have to go, the service has begun. Don't worry I will pray for you as well because I already know you can't make it." I assured her.
Lucy turned her direction to Derek. "Will you be going to church?" She asked him, causing me to turn to his direction against my will.
"Not possible." He answered while holding that girl that walked in.
Disgusting!!
Lucy then walked me out.
"Lana." Derek called out my name when I was about exiting the balcony. Hearing him call my name made my heart skip a bit, I wonder why.
I looked back to where he was with that 'girl' and answered, "Yes."
"Can we meet again today?" He asked looking in my direction.
"Uhmm...Maybe after the service," I finally said.
"Okay," he said, returning his attention back to the girl he was with.
We left the balcony and headed outside.
"I'll see you later right?" Lucy asked.
"Sure. But make sure the food doesn't get burnt." We both laughed.
"I won't let that happen or else I'll get burnt along with food." She chuckled.
"Okay, see you," I said.
She went back while I went straight inside the church.
