Summer!!! The one word burst into my mind. Today is the first day of summer! No school! No stupid bullies!
These are the days where I can just be me! I thought as excitement filled my whole body. "Y/N! Breakfast!"
My parents called from downstairs.
"Coming!" Jumping out of bed, I rushed to get dressed for the day. Wouldn't want to waste one second of summer, now would we? As soon as I was downstairs, the smell of pancakes filled my nose. "Mm, pancakes!!!"
"That's right, dear." My mother smiled as she served her mouth-watering pancakes onto the table. I ate as quickly as I could, the reason being that I wanted to go to the beach. I love the beach, it was always so blissful and the water was so warm! I could never resist going for a dip while I was there.
"I'm finished. Um, is it ok if I can go outside now?" I ask hesitantly. My parents probably had something planned, they always did.
"Sure! Just be back home before lunch." My father looked up at me from his newspaper and grinned.
"No problem, see you soon!" I gave each of my parents a special farewell, and then left the house swiftly. The beach was only a 25 minute bike ride away. The plus side for living near this beach was it was almost dead half of the time, hardly anyone came. Plugging my headphones in and sitting on my bike, I began to pedal down towards the bay.
Finally reaching the beach, I sat my bike against the small bike stand. Walking down the short pathway, one of the songs I enjoyed; Umbrella Beach, started to play. I began humming the cheerful tune and only snapped out of my daydream when warm sand hit my feet.
I stood there for a few moments and took a deep breath, letting my lungs fill with the ocean air. But, my joy was short lived. My feet started to burn on the hot sand and I started to hop from one foot to the other. "Ow-ow-ow!!!"
I sprinted towards the water and upon contact, my feet almost seemed to release steam as the warm - but not as warm as the sand - water cooled my feet off. I heard a chuckle behind me and instantly turned around.
A young man sat under an umbrella. "Careful, the sand's hot."
I couldn't help but reply in a playful tone. "Really now? Thanks for the warning!" We both laughed at the same time and I wandered over to the man, which wasn't generally what I'd do, but this felt right.
His sunglasses reflected the suns glare immensely. He seemed oddly familiar, but I couldn't figure out who he was. "Mind if I sit with you?"
"Not at all!" His smile was sweet and his voice was quiet, I liked that. I didn't like the loud, burly people.. I preferred someone who was quiet and more collected.
We began talking. Our conversations were quite interesting and when we got onto the topic of music, my heart stopped as he spoke. "I produce music. Been doing it for quite some time now, I've always had a thing for the tunes. Now it's become my career, you might have heard of Owl City before?"
I just nodded, eyes wide and mouth gaping. If this was who I thought it was...I was going to scream. My mouth went dry as I spoke again. "Uh...I...I just noticed...but, we didn't properly introduce ourselves. I'm Y/N." I held my hand out to him.
"I'm Adam." He took my hand in his and shook it gently. His grin grew wider as he saw the shock on my face.
"Y-you mean...Adam Young?"
All he did was nod, and I practically lost it. I held my breath in an attempt to not scream or blurt something stupid out.
"Um...are you ok?" Adam asked shyly, my face must have been changing colours or something. As I began breathing again he laughed. "It isn't too often I see someone change colours like that!"
I blushed slightly and looked down at the ground. How stupid of me! I had just embarrassed myself in front of him. Adam didn't really seem to mind and for an hour or two, we did various activities together. We talked, built sandcastles, went for a swim...or more so, Adam pushed me in and I retaliated by grabbing onto him as I fell.
After sitting in silence for a while, I glanced down at my phone. I gasped when I saw the time. "Oh no! It's almost 2:30! I was supposed to be back an hour ago!"
"Do you want a lift?" Adam asked as I stood up swiftly and began to leave.
"No-no! It's fine, I can get back myself. I don't want to be a bother. Thank you so much for a wonderful time, Adam, but I have to go. Bye!" I sprinted up the pathway and jumped on my bike. Taking off down the street, I hoped I could make up a good enough excuse for being late. My parents wouldn't believe me if I told them I'd met Adam Young..

I sat in my room, staring at the floor. Sure enough when I got home, my parents had yelled at me asking where I'd been. I told them the truth and they just laughed it off, thinking I was lying. "You and your stories." They mumbled angrily, this literally made my heart break. I didn't lie...and my parents knew that.
Suddenly, my room door opened and it was my mother. "Dear, there's someone at the door for you." She smiled gently and gave me a hug as I walked up to her. "Sorry I got so mad at you. I thought you were lying."
Huh? I didn't understand.. What had made her change her mind? But as I walked downstairs and saw that all too familiar face, I grinned. "Adam! What are you doing here?"
"Hey, Y/N! You forgot your bag," Adam held my bag up and I took it from him. "Lucky thing you had your address written on the inside. I figured I'd just return it."
"Thank you so much!" I gave Adam a hug and when he pulled away, I saw him blush. I couldn't help but grin. "Stay for dinner?"
"I'd love to." Adam smiled and he followed you into the dining room. Tonight couldn't have been better.
