Chapter Two

Danielle sighed as she walked around the church gym. She was bored. She didn't really talk to anyone that was here right now. She was waiting for Adrian. She hadn't seen Ricky, and she was pretty sure that he wasn't coming. This wasn't his scene. It wasn't Adrian's either, but she was coming to help Danielle chaperone. Amy had been extremely nervous all day, and Danielle knew that it would only get worse if a stranger had chaperoned them. Danielle didn't want to force Amy and Ben to ride with her dad either. Plus, Danielle could be here in case Amy needed advice or something. So here she was. Danielle smiled when she saw Amy and Ben standing by each other on the opposite side of the gym, being careful not to touch. Other people may have viewed it as awkward, but Danielle thought it was kind of cute. "Hey..." Danielle raised her eyebrows as she looked to her left. Danielle smiled. "Hi, Jason. What are you doing here" Danielle asked and he shrugged, "Madison and Lauren needed a ride" Jason stated and Danielle flinched a little. "I'm sorry" she said and Jason laughed. Danielle knew, first hand, how annoying having two of the girls in the same car could be. Especially when one of them was Madison. She wouldn't wish that car ride on anyone. "What about you? Are you here to plot wife #1's daughter's demise?" Danielle laughed before shaking her head at him.

Ricky raised his eyebrows as he stood by the wall of the gym and watched Danielle talk to one of the football players. Ricky wasn't sure what his name was, Jacob maybe, but the two of them looked cozy. Ricky didn't really like that. The guy, that's what Ricky decided to call him, touched Danielle's arm as she laughed and Ricky set his jaw. Watching them was only fueling his anger at the sight. "They look cozy." Ricky rolled his eyes at the comment as Adrian walked up beside him. Ricky shrugged, trying to seem indifferent. "Didn't notice" he lied and Adrian scoffed, "Yeah right" she whispered as Ricky scanned the crowd. He was trying to keep his eyes away from Danielle and her friend but it wasn't really working. Adrian laughed causing Ricky to look at her with raised eyebrows. "Come on, Ricky. You can have her, but you have to give up all the other girls" Adrian stated and Ricky raised a brow, "It's a small price to pay" Adrian added before walking away. Ricky raised hi eyebrows as he watched her go before turning back to Danielle. The football player had walked away and Amy was with her now. Ricky smirked before making his way over to her. "Don't let him push you to do something you're not comfortable with" Danielle said and Amy looked at him. "Hi, Ricky' Amy said and Ricky raised his eyebrows in a 'hey' gesture. "What's going on" Ricky asked as he glanced to Danielle and she sighed, "Amy feels like Ben is trying to kiss her and she's not ready for that" Danielle answered as she looked up at him and Ricky raised a brow. The kid had a lot to learn. Danielle hated when someone pressured her little sister's to do anything. "want me to talk to him?" Amy's eyes widened before she quickly shook her head.

Danielle sighed as Amy practically ran away from her and Ricky to get back to Ben. Danielle really hoped that Amy didn't let Ben pressure her. Danielle knew that it was only a kiss, but it could lead to him trying to pressure her for sex. Amy shouldn't do anything unless she was ready for it. "I thought you weren't coming tonight." Danielle raised her eyebrows as she turned to face Ricky. "Same goes for you. I didn't think this was your scene" Danielle told him and he smirked. "I brought Amy and her date. What's your excuse" Danielle asked him as she folded her arms. She had a pretty good idea what it was. Grace Bowman. Ricky only shrugged though. Danielle rolled her eyes. She knew she was right. Ricky was one of her closest friends. She knew him pretty well. He loved conquests, and Grace was a conquest in his eyes. A virgin who took a vow of celibacy. The perfect conquest. "So, who's your friend" Ricky asked as he nodded towards Jason. Danielle shrugged as she glanced to the boy by the food table. "Lauren's brother" Danielle answered nonchalantly and Ricky raised a brow at her, "Well, I think Lauren's brother has a thing for you" Ricky stated and Danielle scoffed. No way. Ricky nodded at her. Danielle tilted her head as she gave him a look. The 'You have no idea what you're talking about' look. "Jacob has a staring problem" Ricky commented, ignoring her look, and Danielle rolled her eyes. "His name is Jason" Danielle corrected and Ricky shrugged, "I don't care" he said in the same tone of voice Danielle used. Danielle heard the anger hidden behind it though. She raised her eyebrows. "Ricky Underwood, are you jealous" Danielle asked as she crossed her arms and Ricky made a scoffing sound, "Me? Jealous? Why would I be jealous of him when I can have any girl I want" he asked and Danielle flinched a little. That kind of hurt. "Speaking of, can you dance with Tom so I can dance with Grace" Ricky asked and Danielle scoffed. "No." Danielle walked away before Ricky could say anything else. Ricky sighed as he watched her go.

Ricky raised his eyebrows as he listened to Grace talk about how happy she was that he decided to come while they danced. Ricky wasn't really listening though. No, he was watching Danielle and Jason. She seemed completely oblivious to the fact that he was flirting with her. Ricky knew flirting. He was an expert on that subject. He could get just about any girl to sleep with him with just a few, flirtatious words. "So, what are you and Danielle exactly?" Ricky raised his eyebrows at Grace. "You haven't stopped staring at her since we started dancing" Grace stated and Ricky shook his head, "She's just a friend" he told her before glancing back to Danielle. Just a friend. "Grace! Grace!" Ricky jumped as a piercing scream sounded. Everyone went for the door. Danielle and Grace were the first two out with Ricky and Jason right behind them. Ricky almost laughed at the sight in front of him. Adrian and Grace's boyfriend, Jack, were standing there. "Jack was kissing her" Tom stated as he pointed to Adrian and Adrian put her fingers to her lips. They had done more than just that. It was written all over Jack's face. Guilt.

Danielle sighed as she sat on the bed and painted her toes while she talked to Adrian over the phone. She was bored and she decided to go through her nail polish colors. "I can't believe you made out with her boyfriend. In their church" Danielle told Adrian incredulously. Danielle really thought that little miss innocent was going to snap. Unfortunately, she didn't. Grace had just ran off crying. Ricky, of course, ran after her to comfort her. His chances had just gone up a lot. "Oh, come on. Admit that you enjoyed watching little Miss Perfect's face fall. Maybe she'll stop acting all high and mighty now" Adrian stated and Danielle titled her head as he wiped the nail polish off her toes before laying back on her pillows. Danielle felt bad about it, but she did kind of enjoy it. And Adrian had a point. Grace always acted like she was better than everyone else because she was a Christian. Granted, Danielle could have done something about it without making out with the girl's boyfriend. She wasn't that mean though. That's why she and Adrian were such good friends. Adrian was a bitch, and Danielle was the nice one. They balanced each other out. "So, I heard Ricky was dancing with her tonight" Adrian stated and Danielle shrugged, "He was" Danielle told her. "And how did you feel about that" Adrian asked and Danielle raised her eyebrows as she picked at her cover, "Why should I care" Danielle asked. Danielle didn't bother to mention the fact that Ricky threw all 'his girls' up in her face. Danielle honestly didn't understand Ricky sometimes. One minute he's the sweetest guy, and the next he's a dick. Danielle assumed that it was because all the foster homes he had been in growing up. "I don't know" Adrian muttered and Danielle raised her eyebrows at the tone in the Latina's voice. It was the tone that she used when she knew something. Danielle opened her mouth to ask Adrian what the tone was about but a beeping noise stopped her. "I'm gonna have to call you back. Someone's calling" Danielle told her "Alright. I have a lot of homework so we'll just talk tomorrow" Adrian told her and Danielle nodded before answering the beep. She didn't bother glancing at the screen as she did so. She assumed it was Ricky. "Hi, Ricky" Danielle said as she shifted, "Not Ricky" another male voice said and Danielle made a face. "Oh. Hi, Jason." Why was he calling her right now?
