I stood there on my door threshold, waiting for the boy how has been haunting my every thought since I laid eyes on him to tell me why he was standing on my front porch. "What is it boy?" By hearing my voice he seemed to come back to reality and blinked a couple of times. When he seemed to realise that he was staring at me, he blushed and shoved a sealed envelope at me, "We are leaving Town today m and my father wanted to give this you, as thanks for saving his life." His voice was different than what I thought it would be; I thought it would be a velvet voice but his was a low husky one. Just by hearing it my body craved his touch which was ridiculous! So instead I looked at the envelope; I never received anything in my life as thanks, let alone a sealed envelope. "What's in it?" He looked at me as if I was nuts, I probably was, but you never know what people might hide inside. I narrowed my eyes in suspicion when he didn't answer, "If you can't tell me then I don't want it." I stated and slammed the door shut in his face. "Asshole" Landon muttered before shoving the envelope through the letterbox and walking away.
On Mount Olympus
Lady Hera winched when she saw her son slam the door in the poor boy's face. She knew that Ares or Marcus as he now calls himself would never accept anything without knowing what was inside. He was always very skeptical about anything he received, because a lot of other Gods liked to play tricks on him.
She did notice that when his other siblings were on quests to find their true mates he would look longingly at Zeus, for him to announce his name and tell him that he was allowed to go on his own quest for his mate. As time went by and everybody else but Ares found their mates he grew cold for any kind of affection. His expression hardened, he became uncaring for the fate of mankind or his own. He became reckless; he only did things for his own benefit, not caring he hurt others in the process as they hurt him when they spoke about their mates and their ultimate happiness. For he knew that Zeus would never tell him the name of his mate, he would never be as happy or complete as the rest of his siblings. Nobody took the time to actually look beneath the façade he put on, for she knew he just wanted to love and beloved in return.
As Ares grew older, he started to turn away from everybody, he just did his duty and left. Nobody really knows what goes on inside his head. She didn't know until recent that Ares wanted to die. To say she was shocked would be the understatement of the century, she thought that he was doing fine; she didn't notice anything alarming in his behaviour at all. They all knew that Ares had a good deal of respect for Hades; Ares was one of the major reasons Hades was overworked. But she never expected him to talk to Hades about dying, about finally finding some kind of peace. For Ares was becoming very unstable as time passed and he didn't have his mate. It was told that when a God wouldn't find their mate within a certain period of time he or she would go insane.
As his mother and the Goddess of choices and crossroads she decided that it was in Ares best interest that she would interfere and help him. With that decision made she got up, she decided to first visit Hades and demand him to tell her what Ares precisely told him about him wanting to die. For she would not let any of her children die because of her husband's ignorance about his child's life. For Ares was the only child she was pregnant with and there for had a strong mother instinct to do anything to protect him. Even going as far as to go down to that dreary underworld where Hades receded and find out what he knew about Ares and how to save him.
"Where are you going?" Her husband's voice startled her out of her murmurings. She knew her husband well enough that he could be childish sometimes and a little naïve about things but usually he was fair with any of his children, so she was a little puzzled that he didn't tell Ares the name of his mate as soon as he heard it. She took a good look at her husband and saw a strange gleam in his eye, but as soon as she blinked it was gone. I must have imagined it.
