Chapter 13 - Just in Time
I looked everywhere and couldn't find him. I knew that he must have went through the flaming building that many people were trying to fix now, but he wasn't there.
I immediately ran towards the harbormaster to ask him if he ever saw Connor.
He did. Charles Lee went up to the Charles River and was known to go to a tavern for his last moments.
Connor, of course, chose to follow him and took transportation for himself.
In the end, I chose to have transportation as well. I didn't know if he was injured or not to be able to make it over there, but...the master answered my concern.
"He seemed to be a bit off. Had a wound on his stomach. It's good you made it on time," the master gestured towards two men who immediately got transportation for me.
"Thank you for helping him and for helping me," I said with a smile.
"Of course...take care of him."
"I will."
After taking a certain amount of time on the water, I made towards a tavern.
"This has to be it," I said to myself as I walked towards the door. I walked inside and found Connor limping towards me and Charles's face on table, completely still.
I knew...that the deed was done. "It's over...", I muttered as Connor looked at me, panting slightly.
"Connor..."
Suddenly, he collapsed and fell on the tavern's floor.
I gasped as I ran to his side and got him upright. "Connor! Connor!", I held him close to me, "Don't worry..I'm here."
"The....the deed is done...", he spoke under his breath.
"I know...", I held him closer where our foreheads touched, "I'm proud of you." I looked up, "PLEASE HELP ME! I NEED A CARRIAGE OF SOME KIND!"
People that were in the tavern immediately stood up and ran towards me for aid.
--
We went back to the mansion as Connor laid on the couch in the living room, fast asleep.
By Dr. White's directions, while he left after observing him to get supplies, I removed his robes to make him feel more comfortable and relaxed, leaving his long sleeved white shirt behind and his trousers. I even removed his shoes as well.
Then, I took a towel, dipped it in water, folded it and placed it on his head.
As his clothes were removed, my heart dropped as I noticed his wound. It looked deep, it's amazing how he can still breathe. If it actually went through him all the way, he would be gone by now, Dr. White told me.
Also, if I never arrived at the tavern by the time, he would have been in trouble.
I took a breath as I took another towel, dipped it in water, and dabbed his wound gently to remove some blood.
I heard Connor groan a little bit as I immediately pulled my hand away, "I am so sorry, Connor..."
I noticed him clench his fists as he was still asleep.
I placed a hand on his chest to show him that I am still here and that I would like him to relax a little more.
Connor seemed to get the message as his hands relaxed and they weren't clenched anymore.
I smiled as I continued to remove some blood.
By the time Dr. White came back, he gave Connor some antibiotics and fixed his wound. He said that it will still hurt for a while, but it will heal soon.
I said farewell to Dr. White as Connor was still asleep.
I looked at Connor to make sure he was all right and then I went to the kitchen to start making dinner.
--
Once I finished making some soup, he was still asleep. I sighed with a smile. I have never seen him so tired before.
He must be tired after everything that has happened. It makes sense why he would still be asleep.
I placed the soup on the table which was in front of him and looked at him.
I noticed that there was blood on his face.
I took the towel that was on his forehead and removed the blood.
Then, I noticed the war paint that was still on his face.
"The war is over....", I placed my hand on one of his cheeks, moving my thumb across one of the streaks of paint.
I realized something. I removed my hand and looked down, "Soon...I have to leave. I can no longer help you. You have already fulfilled your mission. I have no reason to stay here now, and yet, I don't want to go. I know...I have my own time to return to. I am the current master of the Brotherhood. But.."
I clenched my fists on my lap as I was on my knees on the floor in front of Connor.
Tears started to fall from my eyes as I started to cry.
Then, a hand was placed on my face. I opened my eyes and looked at Connor who was smiling at me.
"Connor..."
He moved his thumb removing my tears from my two eyes.
"Thank you...Miranda....for being here with me," he said softly as he still grinned at me. It was a grin that no one else would see except for me.
I looked down as he slowly sat up, groaning.
"Be careful," I stood up, supporting his back and placing my hand on his chest to make sure he's okay.
He looked at me, "Don't worry I'm fine." He said as he turned towards me, still sitting on the couch. I still stood as I fell to my knees again and we both hugged, "Thank goodness....thank goodness you're all right."
We both hugged either other with warmth as we closed our eyes.
We both pulled away as we both looked at each other again. I saw a strand of hair that on his face and moved it away with his hand. Then, he took a part of my hair and placed it behind my ear.
We looked at each other for a moment as he started to lean close to my face.
I looked down, "I don't want to leave..."
"Then don't..."
"But I have to follow my duties..."
"We will meet again."
"What if we don't?"
He made our foreheads touch as he took my hands in his and spoke, "We WILL meet again."
I looked at him as our eyes locked with each other's, "Are you sure?"
He held my hands tightly, not looking away from me at all. "I am."
He leaned closer as we both closed our eyes and kissed.
We kissed softly and then it slowly started to get a little rough, causing Connor to groan a little.
We immediately stopped as I placed a hand on his bandaged wound, "Be careful...your wound is still open."
His eyes were on me as I looked back at him, "Connor?"
"I really wish.....you were from here...."
My eyes widened, "Connor..."
"So..then...this problem would never be here..."
I looked down, "But we will meet again?"
He smiled, "We WILL."
I smiled as well.
We both kissed again, softly again and slowly kissing each other with passion.
The soup was still warm on the table, not getting cold at all, showing that our relationship will definitely still be bright.
