Chapter 5 - Trapped

We arrived in New York and met Haytham.

He recieved new information that Benjamin Church is holed up in an abandoned brewery on the waterfront.

Connor and I decided to follow him to the location as we stopped to take a break.

By this time, Connor decided to ask questions since he had the opportunity. I stood behind him and listened.

"Tell me something...You could have killed me when we first met - what stayed your hand?", Connor asked.

"Curiosity. Any other questions?", Haytham replied.

"What is it the Templars truly seek?"

Haytham turned around and looked at the both of us, "Order. Purpose. Direction. No more than that. It's your lot that means to confound with this nonsense talk of freedom."

Nonsense talk of freedom?!

"Time was," Haytham continued, "the Assassins professed a far more sensible goal, that of peace."

"Freedom IS peace."

I nodded in agreement to Connor's words.

Haytham shook his head to the both of us, "Oh, no. It's an invitation to chaos. Only look at this little revolution your friends have started. I have stood before the Continental Congress and listened to them stamp and shout/ All in the name of liberty. But it is just noise."

Just noise?! Just listening to him made me build anger inside. But, I continued to take deep breaths to relax.

"And this is why you favor Lee?", Connor questioned.

"He understands the needs of this would-be nation far better than the jobber nowls who profess to represent it."

Connor smirked, "Heh. It seems your tongue has tasted sour grapes. The people have made their choice - and it was Washington."

"That is correct," I spoke up, agreeing verbally to Connor's words.

"The people chose nothing. It was done by a group of privileged cowards seeking only to enrich themselves. They convened in private and made a decision that would benefit THEM."

"Correction! They made a decision based on what would benefit the people!", I argued to Haytham.

"Oh, they might have dressed it up with pretty words, that does not make it true," Haytham replied to me.

I huffed and crossed my arms. I can't be patient with this guys anymore...

Haytham stepped a little closer to us to make us listen to his upcoming words, "The only difference, Connor and you." He looked at me, not knowing my name, which angered Connor.

"Her name is Miranda," Connor spoke.

"Right...The only difference, Connor...Miranda...the ONLY difference between myself and those you both aid - is that I do not feign affection!"

He stormed away.

Connor and I looked at each other as his hand was on my shoulder, telling me that we should just keep going to complete this task to get the supplies.

We followed Haytham to the location.

--

We found that the building was being guarded by guards.

The only way we can enter was that Connor would be in disguise. But for me, there was nothing I could really do. There would be no reason why a woman like me would go into a random brewery. I can try the act of seduction, but no no no, I was not that type of person.
