As soon as the car came to a holt, Perrie let out a sigh of relief, raising more questions to Leigh-Anne's curious mind. The two girls stepped out from the car and began their way to the porch.
It was weird to think that these two girls were just two strangers yesterday morning. Was it fate? Leigh-Anne pondered as she unlocked the front door. She swung the door open, letting Perrie step inside first. Leigh-Anne quickly followed, plonking her bag down near the coat hangers.
Perrie's ocean blue eyes searched the foyer of the house. Leigh-Anne took off her converse and placed them on the shoe rack. Leigh-Anne's brown orbs flicked too Perrie who looked like a small child who was having their first visit to s zoo. A small and quiet chuckled escaped Leigh-Anne's mouth as she watched Perrie run her hands over the velvet couch.
"Did you want something to eat?" Leigh-Anne asked, breaking the silence.
Perrie glanced over to Leigh-Anne and quickly moved her hand away from the couch, a slight blush covered her cheeks.
"I'm fine," Perrie replied, shoving her hand into the pockets of her leather jacket.
"Okay well, since dad's out of town we can use his office and his computer to do the project. I suggest you come here everyday after school until it's done," Leigh-Anne stated while she got up from the couch.
"You just love spending time with me, don't you," Perrie teased, flicking her golden locks behind her back.
"Sure, I'll let you think that," Leigh-Anne says as she rolls her eyes.
Perrie let's out a small chuckle that makes Leigh-Anne insides turn out. Leigh-Anne never noticed Perrie's adorable dimples until just now. Shaking her head from the thought, she decided to show Perrie to her fathers study.
Usually, Leigh-Anne would never come in here but it beats going to her room where a bunch of Harry Potter posters are hung up and a book shelf that
made half the perimeter of her room. The two friends made their way into the study, walking up the winding steps of Pinnock Place.Leigh-Anne logged into the computer got up some historical websites and a word document. After a few minutes they decided in the topic, World War II. Much to Leigh-Anne surprise, Perrie looked genuinely interested.
"I didn't know you liked this stuff," Leigh-Anne blurted out her thoughts as Perrie read through a website.
"History fascinates me," Perrie replies, not taking her eyes from the screen, "It's usually something people don't notice."
A smile finds it's way to Leigh-Anne's lips. Two days ago she would have never of thought to even invite Perrie over or she wouldn't of even dared to sneak a loot at her in class. Now, she was smiling at every little thing she did. She only saw the tough outside usually of Perrie. She would walk the halls with her head held high and a giant smile plastered on her face. Though, Leigh-Anne knew that there was something that smile was hiding.
The two girls had lost track of time. They were simply enjoying themselves, reading about modern history while making a joke here and there. It was the most fun Leigh-Anne had in a king time. Even before Violet left, she could feel Violet drifting away slowly. Calls were cut short, taking hours to reply to messages. She was stupid to only realize those signs now.
"Hey, you okay?" Perrie asks, interrupting Leigh-Anne's thoughts.
"Oh, yeah," Leigh-Anne said, her voice trailing off as her mind slipped back into reality.
"I should be getting home now, it's almost seven," Perrie said, hopping up from the computer chair.
"Oh yeah, I'll drive you ho-"
"No, it's fine. I'll walk. It's not far," Perrie quickly stated.
"But it's dark out," Leigh-Anne said, pointing to the arched window where the moonlight shone through.
"I don't care!" Perrie snapped, making Leigh-Anne sit back slowly in her chair.
A painfully awkward silence fell over the room as the two stared at each other. Perrie mutters a quick goodbye and leaves the study. Stunned, Leigh-Anne made her way to her bedroom to change into comfortable clothes. She chose a pair of black leggings and a spider man t-shirt. She took her wild brown hair and threw it up into a messy bun.
Leigh-Anne grabbed her book that she needed to study for school and her math homework and made her way downstairs to the dining room. Carmile, the cook, was already in the kitchen making her dinner. Tonight, Ms Pinnock would finally be home in time for dinner to be spent with Leigh-Anne, for the first time in three weeks. It was on this rare occasion that Leigh-Anne would prepare everything she had to say to her mother. The past three weeks was just filled with quick goodnights and small talk in the morning. Which wasn't even everyday, just the odd day that Ms Pinnock was running late or let off early.
Leigh-Anne took her place at the dining table and began reading through her book until she heard the door click. Her head shot up and a small smile grew on her face. With a quick push of her glasses, Leigh-Anne hurried to the foyer to see her Mother hanging up her coat.
"Hello, Mother!" Leigh-Anne spoke with excitement.
"Hello," sighed Ms Pinnock, rubbing her forehead.
"Are you okay?" Leigh-Anne asked with concern as she took her Mother's handbag.
"I've had the most horrendous headache all day. I think I'll call it a day and hop into bed," Deborah spoke, not knowing the she had broken Leigh-Anne's heart in two.
"Oh," Was all Leigh-Anne said as disappointment grew inside of her.
"Maybe next time, okay dear?" Deborah suggested, taking off her ankle boots.
"But the next time you get off is Christmas week, that's four weeks away," Leigh-Anne said as she turned away from her mother, trying to hide her tears.
"I know, I'm sorry," Deborah said and disappeared as quickly as she broke her daughters heart.
Out of anger, Leigh-Anne punched the wall and continued until she could feel her knuckles bruising. She leant her back against the wall and slide down slowly, hysterical tears cascading down her tan cheeks. I just want one thing to go right! Leigh-Anne thought as she rest her head on her knees.
Footsteps came from the room over. It was most likely to be Carmile, to let her know dinner was ready. With the only energy left in her body, Leigh-Anne rose from her spot from the floor and made her way into the dining area.
A small thanks escaped Leigh-Anne lips as she took her lone seat at the dining table. Tired and sad, the raven-haired nerd began to eat her meal. A meal that she could be eating with her mother.
