'The same old school routine everyday..' I sighed as I watched the clock tick a second closer to the end of the 2nd period, which I'm looking forward to, since I don't really have an interest in Science. I feel like the more our professor talks the slower time passes by. I slowly moved in the rhythm of time and carefully reached into the pocket of my skirt, got my phone out and played a song after I put on some earphones and burried them in my hair so it wouldn't be seen. The song starts softly as I turned my head slightly towards the window of our classroom. I watched the sky intently with a relaxed expression as I felt time move faster.

"Everything stays, right where you left it
Everything stays, but it still changes
Ever so slightly, daily and nightly
In little ways, when everything stays"

Soon enough, the bell rang, which made me whine a little bit because I liked the song that was playing. The professor hurriedly gave us some assignments to do, since most of us were already scurrying out of the classroom, myself included, eager to avoid any additional schoolwork she has to offer. I quickly turned my phone off and shoved my earphones back into my pocket before anyone could notice. But there was another thing I was eager about. Our next class is my favorite, art.

As I was about to run to my locker I heard my name being called. I looked at the source of the voice. It was Professor Mulroy, the new professor. "Hello there, Ms. Wrighte. Don't worry, you're not in trouble, I just wanted to have a little chat with you. May I borrow some minutes from your next class?" He said. I was glad I wasn't in trouble, but I hated that I had to start art class late. We were supposed to paint a landscape today, and I've been planning to paint the sky. I couldn't just deny that request, though. It was technically against the rules, so I was forced to accept. "Sure, professor." Was my unwilling answer as I followed him to his office.

"Ok, Alice, the reason you're here is that I'd like to ask you something." His face became more serious and his eyes watched me intently. One look at his face and you'll know he's not joking. He sighed as he took his glasses off.

"Do you know me?"

That question caught me off guard, it was totally unexpected! He looked at me with a kind of sad face, as I noticed his clasped hands tightened. What did he mean by that? Now that I think about it, this guy was kind of familiar, like he was from a distant memory I can't quite comprehend. Is he a relative? Maybe some guy I bumped into in the streets? Well, I couldn't give him an answer I wasn't sure of, and I'm not really the type of person to ask too much questions to a person I'm not sure I know that much. But there was a faint thought in my head that believed I knew this guy, and I chose to ignore it.

"Um... You're our new teacher.. You introduced yourself earlier this morning, so I kind of know you.." As soon as I said this I started to regret it, the professor looked so.. deflated.. if that was a good enough word to describe him. Was I supposed to say something else? He looked down with a sad face,  "Oh.. that figures.. Well, that was all I needed to clarify, thank you for your time, Ms. Wrighte, you may head to your class now." That was indefinite. He never explained why he needed the clarification.. What is up with this guy? Is he okay? Was I supposed to know him? After a few seconds he faced me again and seemed to force a smile. He carefully put his glasses on and fidgeted with the paperwork in front of him. When he did this, I thought I've seen him do that before, but how? I thought we just met this morning.. I'm starting to believe I really do know him. Or at least, knew him. With an unsure tone, I asked him, "Professor? Are you okay?" His eyes widened at alert, and his face looked happier upon hearing my concern.

"Ah, yes I am fine. Thank you for asking. You should really head to class now, considering it's your favorite subject." Huh? How'd he know that? I showed a confused face and he noticed. "Oh, I overheard one of your conversations with your friends a few days ago. I'm sorry if I confused you." A few days ago? He was here a few days ago? My curiosity is killing me, and I had to stop myself from throwing questions at him. He was probably here for orientation or something.

I decided to finally leave his office after we said our goodbyes, and tried to replace my confusion with excitement for art class. I stopped at the doorway of his office to look back, and the guy seemed to be better than earlier. I sighed, I would probably not figure out anything about him any sooner, and I shouldn't be minding his business, but there's a reason for everything, including that question. I'm determined to know someday, but I'll settle with painting landscapes for now.
