Book of the day: the wolve and vampire Academy! Carter on the side -------------------------------------------------->

Prologue

Torture! Torture! Five... Four... Three... Two...

"SHUT UP!!!" Yup. That's what I thought. I sigh.

''Oh X... What have I told you about screaming at the mutants?" She growls and mutters something too low for me to hear. "What was that?"

"... No screaming at the mutants, cause the psychos will punish you"

"That's right. Now what do you say?" She glares at me and I raise an eyebrow.

"...sorry mu- Aaah!" she screams. I gasp and lurch over to the other side of my cage and see a pale man with a flawless face dropping a tazer into the pocket of his lab coat. He retreats from the cage next to me with a smirk on his perfect but demented face. He stops at the door just long enough to toss a few words over his shoulder:

"Hopefully you will have learned your lesson not to disturb our testing," and with that, he disappears and the door slams shut. I glare at the closed door, mentally cursing his ancestors, before glancing into the cage next to me.

I look at my friend sympathetically and reach a skinny arm through the bars to grab her hand. I give her a sad smile and a reassuring squeeze, as that is about all I can do.

"Alex Singly, what am I going to do with you?"

"I don't know, Cart, I don't know..." I look at her cheek, which is bleeding. I make a confused face.

"Oh that's just where he tazed me." my eyes widen in shock, though I don't know why; I wouldn't put it past them to misuse a tazer.

"No wonder its bleeding! They aren't supposed to be used in such close range. Plus its really dangerous to aim at the face; he could have BLINDED you!" I feel my blood boil and am sure she saw how upset I was. The whole room could tell, because it went deadly silent as I fumed. I could practically SEE the tension in the air, it was so thick. Alex rested a calming hand on the hand that was clenching the metal bar of my cage. I realised I was holding a tight grip on her other hand and let go, feeling my anger drip away until I was just tired. I smiled half heartedly at her before releasing the bar, on which I hadn't left even the slightest mark (pity), and curling up in a tight ball in the corner of the small sitting-room-only cage to preserve warmth.

My nap was short-lived though.

"Carter Worth, they are ready for you now." The woman with the velvety voice unlocks my cage and before I can do anything, clamps a collar onto my neck and practically drags me out of my cage.

Goodbye cruel, cruel world!
