Eric runs his tongue over my bottom lip before I push him away. "What are you doing? I have a boyfriend!" I exclaim.
The lust in his eyes is evident. "I'm sorry. I just- god, I've been wanting to do that forever."
I step back. "What? What are you talking about? You have always been so uninterested."
He runs his hands through his hair and his cheeks turn pink. "No. I just pretended to because your brother would have kicked my ass clear across the country."
"Yeah, he would have." I sigh. "This is honestly the worst timing in the world. I'm with someone I love right now and I don't feel that way about you."
"I truly am sorry. I have never wanted to be that guy. I just thought you should know my feelings about you. How about we forget this ever happened?" He gives me a small smile.
"Already forgotten," I tell him.
He gives me a shit-eating grin and wraps one arm around my shoulders. "Still got those mad kissing skills from before."
I roll my eyes. There is the old Eric. "Let's go back to the living room before my brother comes and beats you up."
He tilts his head back and laughs. "I can take him any day."
"Whatever you say," I reply and smile. "Hey Jacob! Eric says you fight like a little girl."
"He said what!"
Eric gapes at me. "Bruh."
I smirk. "Payback's a bitch."
He narrow his eyes at me. "Touché."
We hear Jacob's footsteps and Eric takes off running and screeching with me laughing in the background.
We don't do much for the rest of the day. Eric and Mason leave before my parents come back since I don't think they would appreciate us having company over.
Jacob studies me. "Are you sure there's nothing going on?"
"Yeah. Everything is fine," I reply tightly.
He doesn't look convinced.
My mom comes home. "I trust you guys didn't go anywhere today," she says as she puts her purse on the table.
"Nope. We just had a boring day," replies my brother with a mischievous look in his eye.
After everyone has gone to sleep, I still lay wide awake. I know I should have slept at least an hour or two but the nightmares won't let me. It is ten minutes before midnight and I decide to get ready.
I put on my black T-shirt and dark-washed jean shorts and gather my hair up in a small ponytail. I stare at myself in the mirror, seeing nothing but my own silhouette.
Something hits my window and I startle. It must be Harry. I slide the frame up and pull off the screen. I stick my head out and see him waving at me to get down.
"Okay," I whisper-shout. "I'll be right there." I can't go down the stairs to the front or back door. They're too squeaky. Time to test out whether I can catch myself or not. I climb out onto the window sill.
The whites of Harry's eyes widen. "What are you doing?"
I don't say anything and take a deep breath. I close my eyes and step off. My stomach feels like it's jumping up my throat and I feel a rush of wind. I expect to hit the ground any second.
"Y/N," I hear Harry say in an amused voice, "you can open your eyes now."
I open them and see that I'm about a foot off the grass. I drop down and grin at him. "That was scary. Now we know that I can catch myself."
He shakes his head. "You could have seriously hurt yourself."
I ignore his comment and give him a kiss. "Let's go."
We walk down the street. There are two dark figures standing by the car talking. "Are these the two people you were talking about?"
"Yep," replies Harry. "Hey, guys. This is Y/N."
Up close, I notice one is a boy with blonde hair and the other is a red-headed girl.
We shake hands. "I'm Y/N."
The guy also introduces himself. His name is Archie. "So what power do you have?" he asks straight to the point.
"I'm a telekinetic. What about you guys?"
"I have super speed," says Leslie. She disappears and ends up down the street in less than a second and comes back.
"Woah! That is so cool."
"Yep," she grins. "It does have its perks."
"Well," Archie injects, "I have invisibility."
I look at him skeptically. "No way."
He shrugs and disappears.
I feel a tap on my should and whirl around. Harry is standing by Leslie.
Archie reappears. "Boo!"
I give a little scream and laugh it off. "You guys have awesome powers."
"Now it's time to put them to work," Harry says. "Hop in the car guys. It's time to go."
We pull up at the bottom of a long driveway to a house. It's situated on a cliff by the ocean. It's big and mansion-like, oozing extravagance. The lights in the house are all off. There are ground lights casting a glow around it. Being a killer must have its perks, I darkly think to myself.
Harry kills the engine and turns off the car. Nerves run through my body and my hands don't stop shaking. Harry grabs them in his and gives me a reassuring squeeze. "Okay," he starts off, "we have the element of surprise and we can't lose that."
They nod in agreement.
"We're going to have to split up into two groups. One goes in through the back and the other through the front." He turns to Leslie. "Can you go on a quick sweep to be sure of the house's layout?"
"Yep," she says and opens the car door. "Be back in a jiffy."
"Archie, make sure you stay invisible at all times. This includes you and your partner."
"Will do," he replies.
"Wait," I interrupt. "Who's going with who?"
Harry bites his lip. "You should go with Archie. Edward can't know you're alive yet. He'll keep you invisible and safe. I'll go with Leslie through the front."
I swallow hard and nod my head. "Okay."
There's a whoosh of air and Leslie appears beside the car. "What did you see?" asks Archie.
Leslie takes a deep breath. "There are cameras facing the front door, the sides of the house, and the back door. The windows on the ground floor don't look like they can be opened without setting off an alarm but the second floor windows won't. He wouldn't suspect us coming in through there. Our best bet would be to go in through the glass balcony on the second floor in the back. That's where a guest bedroom is located." She's out of breath by the time she finishes.
My mind is already running through the different possibilities that I can help with.
"So going in through the front is out," Harry says.
"Yeah."
"We'll all go in through the back and split up once inside the house."
"I can help you guys get up to the balcony," I offer. "And I can also disable the cameras. Archie can come with me first to keep me invisible and then after I've gotten rid of them, you guys follow."
"That's a good idea," Leslie says. "Real good."
Harry looks skeptical, but finally relents. "Alright. We'll go with that."
