The next morning my parents give me and Jacob a lengthy lecture about how we should advise them that we are going out before we actually leave the house. Our mom went through the trouble of preparing dinner and imagine her surprise when her two kids weren't even home.
My dad grounds us for a week. No laptop, no going out, and no phone. Kind of harsh, but Jacob and I nod our head and go with it. There is not much we can say to convince them otherwise. They would probably send us to the mental hospital if we told them what actually happened. I still can't fully believe it did.
When they are done, they send us to our rooms and get ready for work. Jacob follows me into my room and sits in my chair while I plop back onto my bed.
"What are we supposed to do now?" I groan.
"I can invite Mason and Eric over," he replies. "There's not much else to do."
"Harry will probably still come over to check on me or something. He's like that."
"He's a good kid," Jacob says.
"Yeah, he is." I smile and then frown. "He isn't a kid."
Jacob laughs and pretty soon I burst out laughing as well. We must still be out of it.
Two hours later all four of us are sitting on the living room floor. We pushed back the sofa and laid out chips, drinks, and the game UNO. We are all yelling over each other, trying to decide if Mason should have won because he didn't say UNO. This moment makes me appreciate what great friends and family I have.
The doorbell rings. "I'll get it!" I yell with a grin on my face. I open the door and come face-to-face with a panicked- looking Harry. "What's wrong?"
He takes a deep breath. "I know where Edward is and I'm going to go after him."
My mouth drops open. "What-how did you find him?"
"I'll explain more inside." He walks in and stops short when he sees we have company.
Mason and Eric greet him and my brother glances at me with a confused look.
I shrug and shake my head. "I'll be right back you guys. Play without me."
"Don't do anything I wouldn't do." Mason wiggles his eyebrows suggestively.
Eric bursts out laughing my brother punches him in the arm. "Hey! What was that for? I didn't say anything."
Harry and I rush to my room and I close the door. "Care to explain to me what's going on?"
He takes a shuddering breath. "So I spent all of this morning trying to find out more information about the organization or this Edward guy."
My eyes widen as I realize I forgot to tell them they're brothers. I open my mouth to tell him but he keeps talking. Crap.
"I reached out to some people who have powers that I know and gathered as much info as they gave me. Apparently, two of them were approached by Edward and were offered a job and protection in exchange for their 'service'," Harry continues.
I bob my leg up and down and nod my head. I should say something. After he's done talking.
"They declined of course but had to flee their home. They were being followed and..." he looks at my grimaced face. "What? What's wrong?"
I have a hard time swallowing. "I have to tell you something. And you're probably not going to like it."
"Just spit it out."
"Yesterday, when I was with Edward, he said some things. I didn't want to think they were true," I reply. "But I don't see why he would have lied."
