Starkid One-shots

Birthday Post

This here is the one shot my dear friend Zoë aka fangirlstarkids wrote and I asked if I could extend it a little bit for her, so here you go:

Team Starkid had been invited to yet another Harry Potter convention and were currently sat in one of the weekend's Q & A panels. As a whole, the team had been asked a lot of the same sort of questions they'd heard before:

"What is your Hogwarts house?"
"What's your favourite Starkid mess up?"
"What Disney character would the person to your left be?"

But the next question sort of took the whole group by surprise...

"Could you read a birthday post you wrote for another Starkid from Instagram?"

Eyes grew wide as everyone on the stage just, kind of, looked at one other, still processing what had been asked. No one had been anticipating the question so no one was particularly willing to be the first to share. Awkward silence filled the room for a few seconds until a cough from the audience interrupted it.

"Errrrrrrm....," a hesitant Lauren said, not particularly wanting to explain anything about her birthday post to Joey.

"You know what, I will," Brian said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and opening the application. A wave of relief washed over the rest of the group, silently thanking Holden so that they didn't have to go through the hassle. But the group was fully aware that Brian only did birthday posts for Meredith, meaning this could be interesting.

After a bit of scrolling and finally finding the right picture, Brian cleared his throat to read out the caption.

"So this was for Mere's birthday last year. Okay, here we go ahem.
What can I say? She's just the most special person in the whole universe! Everyday I get to be thankful that no matter what madness is happening in the world, I have this person as my best friend. She is so talented, so genuine, so compassionate, and couples powerful kindness with unmatched goofiness in a way that is only 'Meredith'. Will you marry me, Mere? Thanks for giving me the great gift of being in your life!"

There was a hushed silence that took over the room, even the fans looked on in disbelief, as Meredith stared at her boyfriend, just as shocked as the rest. Some even had to do double takes to check that they had heard correctly.

Nonetheless, Brian took a reassuring gulp and stood up from his chair on the stage and got down on one knee in front of Meredith, who was sat two chairs along from him. Pulling out a beautiful diamond ring, he continued.

"Meredith. I love you, so much, more than you could ever believe, and -"

"Yes."

"W-what?"

"Yes! A thousand times YES!"

At this point, the fans couldn't hear what was being said on stage (well, maybe the front row could), due to the fact that their mics had be abandoned on the floor. But that didn't matter, the happy smiles, the loving hug and the passionate kiss gave enough away for them to know that their two favourite Starkids had got engaged. As those at the back of the room caught on, the remaining Starkids on the stage were probably becoming deaf over the shouts of congratulations from the fans closer to the front.

On the stage, it was just Brian and Meredith. Meredith and Brian. Arms around each other as they happily look into the others eyes. Fully coming to terms with what had just happened.

"Finally decided to take the plunge then, BriBri?" A smug looking Meredith asked.

"It looks that way huh, Merebear" Brian shot back.

"Well it took you long enough"

"I guess so. But I cannot wait to share a thousand and one lifetimes with you."

"That makes two of us. Let's make ours a story with no end"

The couple shared another soft kiss, as they were enveloped into a massive group hug by the remaining Starkids. The girls had tears in their eyes, and a couple of the boys did too! But the group of friends were too preoccupied in their news to notice the hundreds of camera flashes going off.

So this may not have been the most ideal way that the happy couple would have wanted to announce their engagement. With videos and photos of the proposal probably making their way to Tumblr and Instagram within the hour. Filling the Breredith tags fit to bursting.

But that didn't matter, Brian and Meredith were able to share this special moment with their friends and the people that loved them. They were going to spend the rest of their lives together, maybe get a pet or two, but whatever they chose to do, they would do it together and it was going to be totally awesome.
