Meredith was sat in front of her mirror putting the finishing touches to her make up. She was nervous; she hadn't been on a date in a while, let alone a blind date. What if she didn't like this guy? What if she had nothing in common with him? What if she made a fool of herself? What if...
'Stop worrying will you. You will look absolutely stunning and blow your date away' Meredith's good friend Cece had chuckled, sensing her friend's anxieties. This caused Meredith to give the reflection of her friend a small smile, before turning around to face her properly.
'I'm sorry C. It's just it's been a while since I've been out on a date and I really want to make a good impression for this Brian guy. How did you say you knew him again?'
'We both work in the same department in the office, but that's not important. What is important is getting you ready! Now do you want to wear the velvet dress or the sequin one?' Cece asked holding up each outfit in turn.
'Like that's even a question!' Meredith exclaimed, taking the velvet dress from Cece's hands and heading to the bathroom to change. Cece just smiled to herself, shaking her head at her friend's sudden change of mood.

Brian was pacing around his living room floor, nervous for what going to happen that evening. His roommate was out of town for a few days so he didn't know who to talk to for a last minute pep-talk. Until, that is, he had a lightbulb moment. Well, more of a phone notification moment.
Cece: Hey Brian. I hope you're leaving soon as Meredith is pretty much ready to go, and you probably don't want to keep her waiting for too long. You'd want to make a good first impression.
Brian: Right! I'll be leaving now then.
Brian: Also Cece, do you have any last minute words of wisdom for me? I am far more nervous for this date than I thought I would be.
Cece: You're nervous? THE Brian Holden is nervous? I haven't heard THAT one before.
Cece: Joking aside though, this may sound cliche, but just be yourself and show her who the real Brian is. It may surprise you how much the two of you actually have in common.
Brian: Thanks Cece. See you in a bit x
Cece: Bye Bri xBrian smiled to himself and pocketed his phone. Taking a deep breath, he grabbed his car keys from the side table and headed out the door. A new air of confidence around him.

Before long there was a knock at Meredith's apartment door and Cece gave her a knowing look. Meredith quickly got up, brushing down her dress as she did, before heading over to the door to answer it. She revealed a handsome, blue-eyed man in a suit stood before her, holding a small bouquet of flowers.
'Hi.'
'Hi.'
'Hi!' Cece chimed in, noticing that the other two adults were simply making googly eyes at each other.
After an awkward few minutes, a cough brought Brian and Meredith out of their trace like state enough for them to start forming proper sentences.
'Errr these are for you.' Brian stated, holding out the small selection of roses in Meredith's direction.
'Thank you, they look beautiful' Meredith replied, breathing in their sweet scent.
'Not as beautiful as you though.'Smooth Brian, smooth.
Meredith could do nothing more than blush at her date's compliment. She quickly rushed to the kitchen to put them in a vase before appearing at the front door once again at lightning speed.
'Shall we get going then?' Brian asked as he held his arm out to Meredith. She merely nodded happily in response as she hooked her arm through his, before walking out the door.
'Alright you crazy kids, have fun tonight. But not too much fun! It is only the first date!' But the couple were well out of earshot to hear Cece's remarks.

Brian pulled into a parking spot close to the restaurant he and Meredith would be having their date at. After he had turned off the ignition, Brian made his way round to the other side of his car to open the passenger door for Meredith. To this, all Meredith could do was smile gladly at the small yet kind gesture.
For the second time that night, Brian held out his arm for Meredith to take, which she gladly accepted. Once again hooking her arm through his, the pair made their way into the restaurant. They were welcomed by a strong smell of Italian food and a cheerful looking hostess.
'Good evening, how can I help you?'
'I have a table booked for Holden.'
'Ahh yes, a table for two. Right this way please.'
Brian and Meredith followed the woman to a table that was out of the way of the other tables in the restaurant, a candle lit in the centre of the table. The soft music in the background creating the perfect atmosphere. Brian pulled out Meredith's chair for her to sit down and she smiled in thanks. The hostess handed the pair their menus for them to browse as they started with some small talk to break the ice.

Before they knew it, the rest of the date flew by, and was filled with silly conversations, laughter and smiles all round, alongside the delicious meal of course. Meredith and Brian learned new things about each other (as you would on a first date) and surprised each other with just how much they had in common. Meredith shared stories about herself growing up and Brian shared a few about his childhood too. Neither one of them losing focus from their date the whole time.
Much later that evening, Cece got a text from Meredith saying that she had had a wonderful time with Brian and was heading back to his place for the rest of the night. Cece couldn't help but smile at the fact that she was the one responsible for introducing these two lovable idiots to each other. I better get an invite to their wedding some day.

AAAAAND IT'S DONE! Finally! I've been meaning to get round to writing this oneshot for ages and it's only been recently that I've had the inspiration to write it. And I'm sorry that the ending kinda sucks, I just really wanted to get this finished.
This oneshot is for Cece aka staarkidpotter on Instagram because she won a competition I did in September last year. Long overdue I know!
So I hope you all enjoyed this little thing, sorry it's short, I've struggled with finding inspiration.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading it. You're totally awesome!
