Chapter Song: "Expedition" by Myah•••
The sleepy town of Riverdale was illuminated with lights and colours, Pop's Chok-Lit-Shoppe flashed a warm neon red, reflecting against the hoods of the old cars that sat parked outside in the cold dark chill. The words Twilight Drive-In sat prettily against a dark blue backdrop, the abandoned sign creaked under the pressure of a strong wind that struck it heavily. The large Town Hall stood proudly painted in the freshest of lemon colours, the shadows of the night illuminated the deceitful corruption that lay hidden behind the closed doors. On the Outskirts of town, the moonlight was shining a heavenly glow across Sweetwater River.
The pale moonlight ricocheted off smooth skin as Samantha stepped out of the water onto the riverbank. Despite the time of day, there was a warm subtle breeze hitting her face as she joined Jughead who was sat on a large rock, beer cans and food around them.
Sam sighs and takes in a deep breath of fresh air, feeling cold, refreshing water droplets spin down the expanse of her back from her wet hair. She runs her delicate fingers through it to untangle the knots that had appeared. Looking to her left to see Jughead awkwardly looking around unsure of what to do with himself. A look of slight discomfort contorted onto his features.
A get together was being held at the river by some people Samantha called "friends". That's what she told Jughead to get him to come, he hesitantly agreed thinking it would just be kids from school, and it was an excuse to be with the blonde. Upon getting there he realized he knew none of the teenagers that were roaming the shoreline. He didn't picture Samantha, someone so bright, having friends who looked so rough. They weren't Serpents, even if they were, Jughead wouldn't have been appalled seeing as his fathers position. These were kids with reckless attitudes and little care for other people's well being from the south side. They were shady, to put it simply.
Cars parked along the road and some even pulled down closer to the river, music being played from phones connected to speakers and radios. Headlights were what was responsible for lighting the teenagers paths. People walking and talking, sitting in groups, splashing in the water, and some making out in plain view.
"You don't have to sit here with me because you feel sorry for me you know?" Jughead suddenly snaps looking towards her. Sensing his obvious discomfort of being at the party, Samantha wasn't effected by this.
"I'm not staying with you because I feel sorry for you, I'm staying here because I enjoy your company, Princess." She laughs and playfully shoves the raven haired boy.
He chuckles and grabs her tiny hands to stop her from pushing him. Goose bumps travel up Samantha's arms as his hands come into contact with them. She leant in towards him and lets herself collapse in his lap, her head looking up at him, while their hands were still slightly intertwined he fiddled with her fingers. The beers Samantha had previously drank giving her a tingly feeling through her body, multiplied by being with the boy she had come to like.
"I love the way you act around me, you're just more... free." The small blonde says looking up at his beautiful face. His bright eyes catch hers and he smiles, not something many people got to see very often, but Sam had always had the ability to bring it onto his face.
"Well that's because I'm comfortable with you, I guess. I don't have to pretend to like you, it just comes naturally." There was a few minutes silence after his confession, where the two teenagers just sat enjoying each others company listening to the sounds of our surroundings. You could hear the water splashing and the laughs of surrounding kids were heard over the buzzing of the nature. It was a truly breathtaking moment in time. The beer Jughead had been nursing sat next to him, obviously having some effect on him, for he would never had said something so innocent yet bold to the girl laying across his lap.
