I walked every backroad possible. Everybody else went home after we had checked all of the main roads, but I can't. This is my fault, I have to do this. I'm not gonna stop searching until I find her. The cops won't help, they said I gotta wait until it's been 24 hours. Waiting is what gets people killed. I bet Russ wouldn't have gotten killed if the police started searching right away. Well I'm not gonna just sit around. I'm searching. I've knocked on every door, looked in every window, given out pictures, my phone number, and any information I could on her. I'm out of backroads to check, I think I need to check the main roads. I'll start at Front Street, and then go to Second, Third, Fourth, all the way to Eighth.
First street is done, and it was pretty rough. Her parents blamed me, but I'm not really surprised, everybody blames me. But I'm surprised at what they told me. They called me a stupid hood, they said that they never wanted their daughter hanging around me, they always hated me, if I wanted to do their family and my other friends any good, that I should go far away and not come back. That's what hit me hard. But I have to keep searching, I can't just stop because her parents are jerks. I have to keep looking for her.
The first house on second street. I knock on the door, and a little old lady opens the door. "Yes?" she asked. Her voice is sweet and motherly, maybe now somebody will actually cooperate with me. "Hi, my friend Emily has gone missing. She's 4'11, she has long light brown hair, hazel eyes, pale skin, and braces. I think her braces were blue. She was wearing black yoga pants, a white t-shirt, and a green sweatshirt with a pair of gray boots. Have you seen her?" I asked. The woman shakes her head. "Sorry deary." she says. I hand her a picture of Emily and a piece of paper with my phone number on it. "If you see her, please give me a call." I said. She nods and closes her door. I continue down Second street, each house like the first. Most of the houses on Third were the same, but then I got to my parents' house. I'm tempted to skip it, they won't help me anyway. But, if they know something, and I don't ask, then that's not gonna help anybody. I have to take the chance. I take a deep breath, and knock on the door. My dad opens it, and tries to close it right away. I stick my foot out to stop the door from closing. He rolls his eyes. "What do you want? Go away!" he yelled. "Emily's gone missing. I'm trying to find her. Have you seen her?" I asked. He smiles. "So you've lost a friend. And I'm assuming it's your fault. Am I wrong? Of course I'm not wrong. Listen, I don't care about your friend, I don't care if she never comes back. It was for her own good if she was stupid enough to hang around you. Now go away, you're not worth my time." he said, and he kicks my foot out of the way and slams the door. I take a deep breath and turn around, hot tears threatening to rise, I won't let them. I leave the yard and lean against my dad's white truck. My phone's rang about five times since Emily went missing yesterday, and now it's ringing again. I should probably answer it.
I pick up the phone, but I don't say anything, because my voice with definitely be shaky and whoever this is doesn't need to hear that. "Kid? Kid? you haven't been home in forever, where are you?" a voice asked. I'm almost positive this is Rob. But what home? "Out." I say, with as steady a voice as I can get. "What's wrong?" he asked. Not steady enough I guess. "Where are you? I'm gonna come get you." he said. I shake my head, but then I remember that he can't see me through the phone. "No, I'll come over soon." I said, and hung up the phone. Now I have to go explain to them what happened. Great. I start towards Rob's house, and try to figure out what I'm going to say. I'll probably completely forget and just flat-out say it anyway. I guess I'll just have to hope for the best.
