I wake up and realize that I've been sleeping for twelve hours. How on earth did I sleep for twelve hours? It's 6 a.m. how am I gonna get a ride to the hospital? Maybe if I walk I can get there in 45 minutes. Wait, no. First things first. I need to go to the police station and report my dad. That's what I need to do. My stomach growls, but I ignore it. I have more important things to concern myself with. I drag myself out of bed -I'm still tired- and walk out of the house.
I start on my way to the police station. I'm walking a little faster than normal, but I'm too tired to run, so I think this is a good pace. I'm about halfway there when my phone rings. I look at the screen and see that it's Darrel. Darrel never calls me. Something must have happened with Rob. I answer it. "Hello?" "Kid! Listen, he's made a turn for the worse." Darrel said, obviously crying. His voice is so shaky I can barely recognize it as his. "You might want to come down here, before it's too late. They've estimated he has about two hours." he said. He's sobbing now, and I hear a click. He hung up the phone. I'm halfway to the police station, but the hospital is a while away. Then again, the police station will be there when I get back, if I take a while in there, I might not get the chance to see Rob. I pick up my phone and dial Julia's number. She's been awake at six more often, maybe she can ask her mom for a ride. One ring, two rings, "Hello?" Julia said, her voice is groggy, she probably woke up just a little bit ago. "Listen, I need a ride to the hospital again. Can you give me one?" I asked. "I think my mom's still asleep though. Can it wait?" "He has two hours, it really can't." "Hot guy no! Mom! Wake up!" Julia screamed. I hear a thud, I think she fell off of her bed. She's on the top bunk, that must've hurt. "Mom!" she screamed. I hear a faint, "What?" in the distance. "Mom get your keys we're going to the hospital!" she yelled. "I'm halfway between Rob's house and the police department, walking along Broad Street. Can you come get me?" I asked. "Yeah. Give me a minute." she said, and I hear another click.
A few minutes later, Julia's car speeds up to me. "Get in loser we're going to the hospital." Julia said. I get in the car and Mrs. Campbell speeds off. We reach the hospital in about half the time. Before reaching the elevator, I stop at the gift shop and get one of those "Get Well Soon" teddy bears. Then we get into the elevator and press the button for the third floor. "Do you know what's wrong?" Julia asked. "Yes. And I'm gonna fix it." I said. I can't look at her. If I look at her, I might not go through with it. But I have to go through with it. "How?" "I have ways." "Okay." The rest of the ride continues in silence. We reach the third floor and walk down the hallway to room 217. Doctors and nurses are crowding the room. I walk in and see Darrel crying. I turn to Julia and Mrs. Campbell. "Maybe you guys should go. It's kinda crowded." I said. They nod. "Oh wait!" I yell. I run up to them and give them a hug. "Thank you, for everything. And I'm sorry, but you're not gonna see me again." "Wait what?" Julia asks. "I'm sorry. But I need to do this. It's the only way, even if it means I'll die." I explained. "What are you gonna do? Please, just tell me!" Julia screamed with tears in her eyes. I sigh. "I'm gonna give him my heart. I can't live, knowing he died. If he can't get another heart, he's gonna get mine." I said, as calmly as I can. Julia starts bawling. "You don't have to do this. There has to be some other way." Julia's mom said. I shake my head. "I'm sorry." I said. They both nod, tears in their eyes. They turn and leave the room. A doctor came up to me. Her name tag says Rizzo. She's got dark brown hair, really dark brown eyes, a small nose and tan skin. She's about my height. "Are you positive you want to do this?" he asked. Her voice is high and sounds like if this weren't such a bad situation, it would be upbeat and perky. "I heard everything, I can't help but tell you have brave you are. I admire you. But are you sure you want to do this? Do you realize the sacrifice you'd be making?" he continued. She looks at me, such hope in her eyes. I don't know what she's hoping for, but my mind is made up and there's no going back now. "Do I know what a huge sacrifice my life is? Of course. Just 'cause I'm a kid doesn't mean I don't know things. I know what my life is worth and I know what I'm doing and I'm gonna do it. Nobody, and I mean nobody is going to stop me." I said. I look him straight in the eye and then walk away. "You'd really do that, just for my son?" Darrel asks. Apparently he heard to. I nod, and he wraps me in a hug. His tears drop down my back and he's sobbing uncontrollably. "I can't tell you how much this means to me." he said between sobs. I nod into his chest. "It's ok. You don't have to." I said. "Do you have paper and a pencil?" I asked him. One of the doctors hands me some paper, and another hands me a pen. They all look at me sympathetically. Great. More sympathy that I don't want. "Thanks." I said. I hop up onto the windowsill and begin to write.
