As I walk down the stairs, my adorable cousin's face lights up. I promised myself I would try and smile as much as possible, even though I really couldn't give a real smile.
"Ciel!" She runs towards the base of the stairs. Her earrings are the same color as her eyes, and bounce as she runs.
"Hello Lizzy." I give her the closest thing to a real smile as I could muster, and it seems to work. Lizzy is positively beaming.
"You seem to be in a good mood tonight Ciel, might something have happened?" Her face was all smiles, but I could hear cautiousness in her voice. She didn't want to ruin the mood for me by asking unnecessary questions. She is so sweet and caring, and I love her, like a cousin. No. I love her as my fiancé. Suddenly, I was painfully aware of Sebastian standing by the door. Lizzy saw my grimace and looked worried.
"I'm just joking around Ciel, you always seem this happy."
"It's alright Lizzy, I'm just happy that I get to spend this night with my lovely fiancé." I gave her a small smile, and this seemed to make her feel better. I led her into the dining room, which was stocked full of all Lizzy's favorite foods.
"Sebastian always overdoes it," I murmured under my breath. But Lizzy was happy, for she sat down with a bright smile.
"This is absolutely lovely Sebastian!" She smiled. "You are such a kind butler, always taking care of Ciel."
"Of course my lady, if I couldn't at least do this, what kind of butler would I be?" Lizzy smiled at Sebastian's words. I do wish Sebastian would smile at me like that. No! I couldn't think things like those sitting next to the one I was supposed to marry.
"Ciel, are you going to eat?" I looked at her, surprised. A concerned face stared back at me.
"Yes, I apologize. I must've not gotten enough sleep last night."
"Ah, yes that makes sense." She still sounded worried, but she let it go. Once we had finished, we went into my study to play chess. I of course could've beaten her, but I let her win a few rounds, just because it was the gentlemanly thing to do.
"Would you like anything sweet to eat, my lord?" Sebastian was standing handsomely posed at the door. My heart skipped a beat.
"Yes, please bring something for Lizzy and I to eat." We kept playing for a while, and once I believed Sebastian was coming back, I asked Lizzy a question.
"Lizzy, do you think maybe I could, kiss you?" What had I just done? What was I thinking?
"Ciel... um, yes. You may." She looked away, blushing. I tilted her chin towards me, and slowly went in for a kiss. As our lips touched, I heard a knock on the door. "Young Master, I have made a cherry gâteau for you and the lady. He opened the door to find me perched over Lizzy, holding her chin.
"Oh I do apologize. Was I interrupting something? I will leave." He sounded like he was about to laugh. My face burnt red, partially because I just kissed my fiancé for the first time, and partially because I had wanted to make him jealous, and now he was laughing. Why the hell would I kiss my pure and lovely cousin for such a terrible reason? I sat back at my seat and looked down.
"You were, please wait for my permission to enter next time." The kiss felt so wrong. It felt like Lizzy was kissing an illusion, some version of me that didn't exist. Sebastian was the only person who knew the real me. The one I hid behind a fake smile. Only him.
