Archie's POV:

I woke up the next morning to find that I was still in Betty's bed. My arm was wedged under her torso, making my whole arm loose feeling.

I tried my best to get it out without waking her up, but she woke up almost instantly.

When her eyes fluttered open, she smiled when she saw me.

"I thought you were going home?" She said rubbing her eyes

"I'm sorry Betty. I must've fallen asleep by accident." I lied

"No, Archie, it's fine" she smiled

Before I could even respond the door swung open. Naturally I would've thought it was Mrs. Cooper, but she was out this weekend.

Instead, Veronica stood in the doorway.

Your actions have consequences. I now realized what that meant.

"What the hell?!" She yelled "I didn't expect you two to be so low as to sleep together!"

"We just fell asleep after the Black Hood called. It didn't mean anything." Betty said

"Really, B? It didn't mean anything?!"

"Look, Ronnie" I cut in "We're friends, and after she broke up with Jughead and got into an argument with you...she needs me."

"Well you two really deserve each other." She said sarcastically "The only two snakes in all of Riverdale."

She left after that slamming the door behind her.

I looked at Betty, and she made eye contact with me. Her eyes weren't as bright as they usually were. She was visibly upset and it made me feel horrible to see her like that.

Then, before I could even realize what I was doing, I leaned in and kissed her. I had felt a sudden urge to, but I never would've thought I would actually have kissed her. Especially after Veronica just bursted through the doors angry just because she thought we were together.

She was about to say something when we pulled away, but we heard the door open downstairs.

"Betty! I'm home" Her mother called

"Oh god" she panicked "Archie, you'll have to go out the window before she sees you."

I nodded in agreement and she helped me out the window.

I was praying my dad wouldn't see me, and I don't think he did because I made it down without him coming outside to yell at me.

"Archie! Be careful!" She called after me

"I will." I said and walked inside my house.

As soon as I entered I saw my dad sipping from his coffee mug in the kitchen.

"What were you doing at Betty's?" He asked

"Homework." I lied "We we're up late studying I must've fallen asleep."

"Well did Alice know?" He asked "I mean I would never expect you to sleep there without her parents approval, but if you had it I don't see why you had to climb out the window."

"Her parents did know, it was that Veronica came over to see Betty and we didn't think she would like to see us together." I lied "I mean I don't think she would even care that we were studying."

"Archie" He said "It's not uncommon for you to move fast from girl to girl-and that's not always a bad thing-but this Betty. A girl who's been your best friend since Elementary school."

I nodded and adjusted my duffle bag on my shoulder before making my way up the stairs.

When I got to my room I tossed the bag from football practice onto my bed.

I saw Betty standing in her window. I picked up my phone and texted her.

Hey. Come over. Need to talk.

A moment later she replied

Okay. I'll be there in a sec.

I was really nervous waiting for Betty for some reason. I always thought of her as a friend, but I don't know why. It's not like I even gave it a chance.

But maybe it's because she was always there, by my side since we were kids. And I never really imagined what it would be like without her.

I heard two faint knocks on the door before I could continue these thoughts.

When I went to open the door, I saw Betty. And almost immediately she wrapped her arms around me and started to cry.

"Shh, Betty, what's wrong?" I try and calm her

"Everything...the Black Hood...and-and.." she trailed off

"What? What is it?" I asked

"Veronica must've told Jughead about earlier, because he called me and freaking out, saying that 'he always knew'."

"If he still cares for you, maybe there's hope for you two." I said, only to cheer her up.

"No, I don't think there is." Her voice sounded strained "He slept with Toni."

"Jughead's just Serpent scum...especially now that he's sleeping with them." I said

"Arch, he is still your best friend." Betty reminded

"No. You are. And you have been since we forever, and I won't let anyone or anything change that."

She smiled, but before she could say anything her phone vibrated.

The next thing I know, she was even more upset-and possibly a little frightened too.

"Archie. Look." She said showing me her phone.

It was a picture from this morning, when I kissed her.

"Betty. That was taken from your closet!" I panicked

"This is what he meant by 'your actions have consequences'. Archie, he's planning something!"

"That doesn't matter right now." I said "we need to make sure your family is okay and that he's not in your closet anymore!"

I grabbed her wrist and ran with her out the door.

When we went into her house, we quickly ran up the stairs.

"I don't know where anyone is!" She panicked and I went to the closet and swung her door open.

There was note at the bottom next to her shoes.

"Betty. Come here." I said anxiously

When she read the note, I immediately knew something was wrong...

...something seemed to have terrified her.
