Chapter 7

Betty's POV:

I blinked several times trying to understand what Archie was thinking when he agreed to go into business with Hiram Lodge. 

"What the hell were you thinking, Archie?" I said crossing my arms "I mean first you get into the car with a stranger when we haven't even found the black hood and then--"

"I know." he said cutting me off mid-sentence "But Betty saying no to him wouldn't have been a smart move either, he had me in his office." 

I took a deep breath just to process everything that he had said. Even though I didn't want to admit it, Archie definitely had a point when he said he couldn't say no to Hiram. If he had, he probably wouldn't be standing in front of me at this moment. 

"So...?" I say waiting for him to continue the story. 

"So, I'm in business with Hiram Lodge but that won't change anything." he promised "I'm still gonna be at your side and help you with whatever you need help with." 

I let out a sigh. "Actually--" I was cut off by a knock at the door. 

"I'll get it." he said and I took a seat at the kitchen table. 

"Jughead?" Archie said upon opening the door, and naturally I walked over to see what was going on. 

"Jug, what's going on?" I asked "Are you alright?" 

Archie was extremely tense and I was just hoping there wouldn't be another fight between them. 

"I'm fine Betty, I just need to ask you something." he said 

"Okay, then say it." Archie said before I had the chance to say anything "Anything you can say to Betty you can say to me, too." 

Jughead rolled his eyes. "Please, I'm not here to win her back. Okay?" he said and then turned back to me "I just want to know if it was alright if I asked out Veronica." 

Archie relaxed knowing that he really hadn't been here for me after all. 

"You like Veronica?" I said in shock "You guys seem like complete opposites...I mean..." 

Jughead smiled "I know. Who would have guessed that a Serpent from the trailer park would end up with some upperclass North sider." 

"Though I can see you two being right for each other." I said "You both are very head-strong and...intimidating when you want to make a change or get your way." 

"So is it cool?" 

"Yea, Jug, it's cool." I smiled and Archie put his hand around my waist. 

"Well, I'll let you know how it goes." He said "Bye" 

"Bye." Archie and I said together. 

Once I had shut the door I turned around to Archie and laughed. "Veronica and Jughead?" 

Archie smiled. "It's probably for the best. I mean they do have so much in common." he said 

I gave him a questioning look, after all how much can a rich North sider have in common with a South-side serpent? 

"I mean imagine if Hiram's criminal activity was with help from the serpents." he continued as if reading my mind. "I mean if the Lodges' weren't rich but still got into trouble with the law. I can almost guarantee Ronnie would be a serpent." 

"Serpent Ronnie." I said smiling "Well, that's going to take some getting used to." 

Archie laughed. "Could you imagine Hiram's reaction? All hell would break lose in Riverdale." 

"So nothing new, then, huh?" I teased "God, I just wish we could go back to when everything was just simple and easy and we didn't need to worry about serial killers and everything else." 

Archie smiled. "Remember when the biggest problem we faced was when the school was going to make me repeat first grade?" 

"Oh my god, yes!" I said "I could never forget that! I was so angry at our teacher that when she told you I did not stop yelling at her, telling her how unfair it was." 

"I even remember what you said." Archie hid a smile "You told her if she had done her done correctly then I wouldn't have to repeat the first grade." 

"And then she kept me in for recess so I could write her an apology letter." I said "I mean that woman was evil! Honestly what adult forces a little kid to write them an apology letter?" 

Archie gasped. "Oh my god, Betty!" he teased "I think we just found out who the Black Hood is!" 

"Don't be an idiot, Arch." I teased "Mrs. Smith had brown eyes."
