Jae crept out of the shower and wrapped his arms around Eunji, as she gasped and pressed her phone against her belly. "Jagi, what are you doing?" He murmured, with a heart-stopping grin as he pressed his cheek against hers and tightened his grip. His hold was relaxing but her newfound realization made her feel anything but relaxed. 'Where's Jin?' She wanted to shout but would she get an answer?
"I was just playing on my phone. You scared me!" Eunji playfully scolded as she pinched his cheeks, it seemed so natural to do so even though it's not Jin in front of her. 'I'm just used to Jin's face, that's why it felt natural. Think rationally, Eunji. You don't know what this man had been doing in New York.' She warned herself as Jae cracked a bright grin and pecked her forehead. "I'm gonna get dressed."
She snooped through his phone once again and came across a text that only heightened her wariness of Jae. Where's Jin and why didn't he come back for her?
"Jagi, I'll be at work. Call me if anything happens, alright?" He bade her farewell with a gentle kiss as she forced a smile and gave him a quick hug. The minute the door closed, she ran to the bedroom and clutched the phone whilst breathing heavily. She wanted to call the number but she was worried about who the person on the other line was, it couldn't be Jin, right?
"Hello?" Tears filled her eyes as the voice filled her ears. "Hello? Yah, don't play tricks on me, Hyung." Is this really Jin? "Jin?" Eunji breathed out through her tears, did she really want to see him again though? He cheated and sent his brother to come back in his place. "Eunji, jagi!" He shouted out of happiness as she strained to breathe.
"Why...Why didn't you come back for me?" His heart broke as he heard her voice. "I'm so sorry, I'll come back to you as soon as I can. Until then, don't believe anyone who claims to be me, okay? I love you." He warned, as the words of agreement stuck stubbornly to her tongue. Is she already falling for Jae, that's why she couldn't wholeheartedly agree with "Jin"?
".....Okay." She whispered as he sighed in relief before bidding her farewell and repeated once again about how he loves her. His voice sent tingles down her spine with familiarity but she still couldn't bring herself to trust both the guy on the phone and the one that's currently living with her.
"Jin, where are you? Come back to me, I'll forgive you for everything as long as you come back." She begged, her heart seemed to weaken from constantly getting bruised and scarred.
Meanwhile, Jae was nearly bursting at the seams in happiness at work, which led to the others glancing at him quizzically. "Yah, what made you so happy, Jae?" Kyungsoo asked, with a smile, happy for his friend. "Nothing, just woke up on the good side of the bed today." Jae beamed, he couldn't tell Kyungsoo about Eunji or else he'd demand to see her, which would only lead to more complications.
He hated the fact that he had to keep his happiness with Eunji a secret, but what was he to do? Eunji belonged to Jin, Kim Seokjin. Not Kim Seokjae. If only he knew, Eunji already found out his true identity and she was terrified of him.
However, although Eunji couldn't work up the courage to confront Jae, "Jin" surely was brave enough. "Hello?" A sinister laugh filled Jae's ear that sounded too similar to Jin. "What do you want?" Jae answered with gritted teeth as the voice spoke. "Eunji knows who you are." The single sentence sounded like explosions in his ear as tears welled up.
His time with Eunji was up that quick? "How do you know that?" Jae barked defensively, not wanting to believe that he was losing Eunji already. "She called me and I told her the truth, Hyung." The voice rang out cockily as Jae's fist twitched out of anger beside his thigh.
"I bet you painted me as an evil guy in front of her, didn't you?" Jae dead-panned as Jin laughed heartily. "Hyung, you know me too well. See you in two weeks!" The voice promised, his cheerful voice irked Jae to no end. His time with Eunji vanished right before his eyes.
Eunji paced nervously around the house as she waited for Jae to come home, she was going to get some answers and she wasn't going to let her cowardice take that away. As much as Jae dreaded coming home, knowing it would be the last time he'd ever see Eunji again, but he also knew that he had to own up to his actions.
Jae was met with Eunji's accusing eyes as soon as he stepped over the threshold into the apartment complex. "Eunji..." He mumbled as she sighed irritatedly. "Who are you and who was that on your phone?" She asked calmly but her eyes said otherwise. If they were anything to go by, she clearly hated him at the moment for the deceit and she was scared.
"I'm Jin's twin brother, Jae. As for the person on the phone, he claims to be Jin, but...." Jae's sentence ended halfway as Eunji grabbed Jae by the collars and shook him. "Where is Jin!?" She shouted, her tears falling down full force. Jae remained silent as Eunji's shoulders shook while weeping against his chest.
He gingerly gripped her shoulders as he pulled her back, his own tears running down his cheeks. "Jin....passed away." He murmured, his heart broke at the memory of his brother's corpse and with the realization that someone was trying to pass off as Jin as if his death wasn't devastating enough.
Eunji slumped to the ground in a split second and fell into Jae's arms as she weakly punched his chest. "How could you not tell me!?......Was he already gone when you FaceTimed me?" Eunji questioned shakily as he nodded mutely.
All the memories Eunji shared with Jae as soon as he came to Korea, disguising as Jin, shattered, now that she knew the truth. "Get out," Eunji said simply as she pushed him back and was quick to put some distance between them. His face was pleading for her understanding, but she wasn't going to have any of it. "Please, just get out. Seeing you just reminds me of Jin, and do you know how much it hurts, knowing that I'll never be able to see him again!?"
