Ever felt like you were destined to be more than what you are surrounded by? Well, that is what happened to me. Hi, I am Bryce Stryker. I am an eighteen-year-old kid who dreams to make it big as a singer, actor, and dancer. I love anything superhero and Disney related and hope to work for Disney or Marvel one day. I might look confident on the outside, but I do that to hide one big secret: I am gay. Being gay in the Midwest to a conservative family was a death wish, but I cannot change who I am.
To deal with all the pressure and cruelty I received from my parents and community, I decided to upload videos to YouTube in 2012 and I love what I do, but I want to be something bigger. So, on New Year's Day 2016, I decided to take a chance and hire an agent. The first thing my agent told me to do is to move in with her in LA and get away from my toxic environment. The only way I was going to do that though was if my little brother, Jax, could come with me. My agent agreed and we moved the following week.
Like any kid moving across the country to a place unknown, I was terrified. My agent thought it was a good idea to send me to acting class to make friends and get practice. I went and in the first class, I met my best friend, Olivia, my other good friend, Leo, and some other awesome people I am lucky to call friends (Peyton, Sabrina, Rowan, Dove, Sofia, Cameron, Booboo, Thomas, China, Ross, Laura, Raini, and Keiynan). It was because of Keiynan that I got my first job as Matthew Allen/Synemma, Barry Allen/Flash's younger brother who is affected by the particle accelerator explosion and gains the power to control people by my singing. I am the first superhero on television that is gay and does drag. The response to my character was so great that I got offered to be promoted to main cast next season, which I accepted right way. I love playing this role and plan on doing it for as long as I can.
One day, my agent called me telling me that there is an opening for a main role in Teen Beach Movie as a shy surfer boy named Malachi who falls in love with the bad boy bike gang leader, Maverick, but has to break out of his shell and stand up to Maverick. I am so nervous because I want this role so badly for two reasons: one being my connection to the character. The second, and most important being that I love Disney and this would be a dream come true.
Here I am, in LA in 2016 and about to go to my first big audition. I cannot wait to get it over with because I am freaking out. Here goes nothing. I hope that I get this right! Break a leg, but not literally.
