"Hey, partner." My father stands outside my door while peeking in through the small gap he created when he opened the door.
"Yeah?" I ask in a small whisper from the balcony.
I hear the door creak open and shut with a faint thump. I stay where I am and continue to look at the forest.
The trees were being highlighted by the soft, bright glow of the light from the moon.
The floor of my room creaks under his weight as he walks to me. He leans on the railing and stare at the forest with me.
"Can't sleep?" He asks in a gentle voice.
"Yeah." I whisper. "You?"
"The same as you." I nod and relax under the comfortable silence but after a while, he decides to break it.
"I am so proud of you, Cee." He croaks out and I look over to him with tears rolling down his cheeks. He sniffles as he wipes his tears but I'd say it was no use since they're flowing non-stop.
My eyebrows knit in pain in seeing him cry. Instead of making him stop crying, I hug him tightly as I feel tears welling up in my eyes, too.
He hugs me just as tightly. "Pa, I can tell something's wrong. Tell me, it's fine." I choke out a sob as he slowly pulls away.
He bends down a bit to look at me in the eye. He looked so pained and hurt, I couldn't bear it.
"Please tell me." I croak out in desperation.
"I am so proud of you, Cee," he replies instead. "If your mother was here, she would be doing this instead of me." We both chuckle a bit at that.
"You slit your wrist without hesitation. You accepted the blood without any doubt." He was clearly happy.
"To make you feel better about this, I was totally freaking out in the inside." I joked yet it was completely true.
His lips twitch to a small smile. He shakes his head and grabs my shoulders and squeeze them, lovingly.
"That's what makes you a great Alpha, Cee. Being able to push aside your feelings deep down to be strong for your pack is one of the traits needed to be an Alpha."
"Listen here," he continues. "Being an Alpha is sacrificing yourself, Cee. Everything. Your blood, feelings, soul; everything makes you what and who you are. It is more than leading, instructing and you know those stuff. But," he pokes at my nose.
"Its complication is terrifying. You do everything till you drop dead for your own pack's survival even if the cost is your own life. If you won't be able to that, you will drown in guilt and regret as you see this pack in ruins and chains holding them down as the enemies set you all on fire, leaving none alive. Until every last drop of blood evaporates, leaving your bones as ashes."
I see the sincerity and truth in his eyes as he spoke seriously.
"I understand why you need to teach me this but I don't get why does it have to be now." I say in confusion.
He smiles but his smile was so sad that I swear I heard my heart break into pieces.
I search his eyes. "What?"
"I'm sorry I won't be with you anymore." He whispers as tears roll down my cheeks.
"What?" I stammer out in disbelief and shock.
"Your mom has been waiting far too long, Cee." He whispers to me.
"What are you talking about?" I began to breathe heavily.
