Jealousy

The bright sunlight burnt through my retinas as I sat up in bed. I put my glasses on, making the sun brighter than just blurry. The woman beside me moved in bed and I looked at the red-head, trying not to disturb her as I got out of the unfamiliar bed.

"Hey, where are you going?"

"I told you last night, I have early hours." I sighed, grabbing my clothes off the floor and turning back to her.

"Can't you stay?"

"That's not how one night stands work, Mya." I put a shirt on and grabbed my heels.

"Please just stay for a little longer?"

"Sorry, I can't." I walked out without saying another word. For a moment, I forgot where I was. Meeting a girl at a bar and then following her back to her apartment while drunk was a regular Saturday night for me but this was different. There was something about last night that made it feel... wrong.

"Kara?" I looked up at Lena. She was wearing a beautiful blue shirt that perfectly brought out her emerald green eyes and complemented her raven coloured hair. "You spaced out, are you okay?"

"Yeah, just thinking about something that happened... last night."

"Girl troubles?" She raised an eyebrow and we both laughed. Then, I went serious.

"Yeah, actually. Well, I mean, kinda..." I just kept nodding. "Mya is nice, but I don't feel like we are supposed to be... you know... together." I tried my best to find the right words, failing and just rambling. I stared out into the city, looking over at the building we work at. "We should head back to work. My break ends soon, what about yours?"

"Half an hour till mine..."

"I hate you!" I joked.

"No, you don't."

Lena POV

I didn't know what this feeling was but I could tell it wasn't controllable. I looked over at Kara, who had her eyebrow furrowed as we crossed the road and entered the front doors of the Danvers Hospital.

"Kara, what's wrong?"

"Nothing..."

"Crinkle!" I cut her off and poked her in the middle of her forehead where her infamous crinkle sat.

"Ugh! Crinkle. I'm going to get botox for that. But I hate needles." We both laughed.

"Seriously though. What's wrong?" We walked into the main section of the hospital, where the worst injuries were.

"I don't know. It's hard to explain this feeling. I guess I'll figure it out soon enough."

"Yeah, you will. Knowing..." I was cut off by a familiar face being dragged in by a gurney. I watched Kara run with them, taking over as was her job. I could barely move as they took my big brother into the operating theatre.

I ran into the room and watched Kara calmly check over him and document all of the injuries. I watched as she started surgery immediately and after an hour of just standing there and watching, she nodded at me, letting me know everything was okay. I walked out and sat in the vacant room across from where Lex was being operated on. I waited for another few hours until Kara walked out with a dark look on her face.

"I'm so sorry, Lena. I am so sorry!" She was crying and for a moment, I didn't realise what was happening. Lex was okay, why was she crying. Then the wave of realisation hit me and I almost threw up.

"How? He was okay when I left!" I yelled, not realising how much my yelling was affecting Kara.

"Lena, you know how these things go. You know that it isn't always good even if it looks okay on the outside." Her voice soothed me, made me finally realise what that feeling was when she mentioned being with Mya. Was I jealous?

"What went wrong?"

"I... I..." She stumbled. I looked up at her, not sure as to what she was implying. Then it hit me. It was her fault.

"Kara..." I warned as I stood up and glared at her. Tears started streaming down her face and she was sobbing to the point where her body was shaking violently. She fell to her knees in tears so I knelt beside her and we hugged for quite a while before Alex ran in.

"We need your help!"
