Alex and I walked into the scan room, sitting on the other side of the bed that Alex would soon be on than the doctor.
"Hello. My name is Doctor Moores. I will be the one controlling everything here. The scan and the results, all of it has to go through me. You are in safe hands, Miss Danvers."
"Doctor," I corrected. Dr Moores smiled and nodded. She got up and motioned for Alex to do the same. I just sat in my seat, silently watching the two talk about what each of them had to do. Alex laid down and I saw her start to shake with fear. I quickly stood to hold her hand. "I'm here. Everything will be okay, sis."
"I'm just scared. What if there is something really wrong?"
"Then we can catch it before anything bad happens," I said, still holding Alex's hand. "Just relax."
Alex's POV
We finally arrived home after the tests at midnight and I relaxed for the first time in a while. I sat down on Kara's couch near where Maggie was sleeping and stayed there while Kara headed to bed. Maggie looked so peaceful and I didn't want to wake her so I grabbed a blanket and covered her with it. A tear fell down my face as I walked to the kitchen, seeing the blood still hadn't been cleaned up. I gulped and grabbed a cloth, taking a deep breath as I cleaned my sister's blood from the floor and cabinets.
When I had finished cleaning, I stood and walked to the bedroom where Kara was sleeping soundly. As I sat on the end of the bed, I felt a vibration in my back pocket. I grabbed out my phone to see that Lena had texted me, saying that she was on her way. I wrote back a quick 'okay' and looked back up at Kara, who was now awake.
"You're still awake?"
"We didn't get home that long ago." I defended.
"It was a half hour. Long enough to get a good sleep. Are you going home or staying here? I'll take the couch while you and Maggie sleep in the bed if you want."
"No, you need the bed." I sighed, not wanting to sound like the overprotective sister I know I am. "You are the one who got hurt, you have to get better sleep."
"You are the one who had to get a scan of your brain today." She shot back. I let out a small laugh, trying to hide how terrified I was of what the results might show.
"I don't want to hurt you guys again. I know it's been a week since all that but I am scared to death of hurting you, Kara."
"You won't. Whatever it is, you will fight it if it comes back. I know you will."
"What if I can't?" I couldn't look her in the eyes. She shuffled closer to me and embraced me in a tight hug. I'm lucky she doesn't have super-strength otherwise I would have been crushed.
"You will. If you struggle, I will be right here beside you."
"That's what I am scared of."
Lena's POV
I arrived home to see a spotless kitchen and my girlfriend asleep in our bed, cuddled up to her sister. It was nice to see that they didn't hate each other, for now. It was only a matter of time before Alex had another outburst, I had already seen the scans. It didn't take a neuroscientist to see she had permanent brain damage, which will lead to outbursts of anger and violence.
I wasn't going to tell them that I knew. I wanted them to wait to get the results the normal way. I took my scarf off and put my bag on the bench back in the kitchen. Sitting down at the table, I grabbed out my laptop and looked at a few emails.
"Lena?" I turned to see Maggie slowly standing up.
"Good Morning."
"What are you still doing up? Where's Alex and Kara? Did they get back from the scan?" She started rambling so I stood and put a hand on her shoulder.
"I'm just going to say 'yes'. They are asleep in Kara's bed if you want to check on Alex."
"Nah, it's fine. What are you looking at?" I tried to run to close my laptop but she was too fast and she grabbed it right out of my weak grasp. Her smile at her accomplishment faded when she saw what I had up. "Alex's scans."
"Maggie, I was going to tell you in the morning, I swear." I lied. It was a miracle that I had gotten the scans so soon but now I wish I hadn't. This was going to be one hell of an awkward chat with Maggie.
Kara's POV
I woke slowly and rolled over to see my sister curled up in a ball, shaking and sweating. I rolled her over to see her muttering something.
"Alex? Wake up." I tried to shake her awake but nothing was happening. Quickly, I felt her relax and then wake up.
"What's... what's going on?" She looked around, trying to pull away from my embrace. I just held her tighter. "Let go of me!" She yelled and pushed me off the bed. I knew now that she was having another outburst. We both stood at the foot of the bed, I had my arms raised.
"Alex, you need to calm down. Just relax and sit down." I backed away from her, knowing what she might do. Maggie came running in but stopped as soon as she saw what was going on.
"Kara, she has brain damage. It's going to fix itself over time but these outbursts are dangerous. She needs a hospital." Alex looked at Maggie and gave her a glare that sent chills down my spine.
"I'm not letting you guys tie me up like a lab rat. You two can go to hell if you think that I'm going to be submitted to... to a psych ward." She turned back to me and leapt at me, sending me flying backwards and out into the lounge section of my flat.
"Kara!" Lena ran to my side and helped me stand. Maggie grabbed Alex and tried to stop her from running at Lena but she failed and Lena ended up on the couch with Alex on top of her, beating her senseless. Despite the amount of pain I was in, I ran to get Alex off of my girlfriend. I tried hard to pull her away but Alex just kept fighting. I fell next to the couch, my face closer to Lena's than it had been in a while. I let myself black out.
But not before I watched Lena's soul leave her beautiful emerald eyes.
