Chapter 4 - Confession

Another stressful day at YabaTech turned Ada’s legs into wood. They pained her so bad that she wished she could just go home and sleep it off. Bella was showing less attention as she had problems of her own that Ada did not know about. Wisdom couldn’t attend school that day because he had to work. So it was only her and Bella that stuck together on the seat. Bella had a good way of flowing with others, so it was never really a problem for her to make friends.
Ada just sat down ignoring the boys who were hooting and trying to joke with her. Useless boys she thought.

I got to talk to you Bella.

Im having a lot of difficulties now

I think im going to fail. And school is not so good.

And I think im falling in love with Femi.

I mean he is a nice guy right? Should I tell him? Before this thing swallows me.

God, I don’t know what to do.

I need someone to talk to.

Thankfully class ended on time. Isaac, another classmate of hers offered to walk her to her route since they were going the same way. She was grateful for the offer since she and Bella did not go the same route. When she got home, she felt so tired and exhausted. She wasn’t even in the mood for her dad who was bombarding here with questions on why she was late. Her mom calmed him down and told her to go and shower. How glad she was!

“Ada”, a low voice called out. She already knew who it was. “Phillip what do you want?”
“Ah ahn sis…wetin happen? You just came in looking down today. Chale talk to me na.”
Ada hissed and rolled her eyes. Thank God he was her favourite brother. If not, she would have kicked him out.

“Abeg Phillip leave me alone. You saw I just came back from school. Don’t disturb me. I need to sleep.” She almost told him about Femi but stopped. It was too intimate to be discussed with him.
Phillip shrugged his shoulders and flashed her a smile, “sorry sis. Oya goan sleep. Tomorrow you have to work-‘’ he was cut short by a loud ping from her phone.
Ada quickly opened her phone to check it and saw it was some messages from the group chat. Not what she was expecting. She looked up and saw Phillip looking at her with interest.

“Oya Phillip leave my room. Leave! I want to sleep.” she shouted at him. He made a funny face at her and left her room. To her relief.

It was midnight and Ada couldn't sleep. She kept thinking about Femi. She knew she liked him. She had this fluttering feeling whenever she was around. He was a good and well composed guy. At least she was not falling for the wrong guy. No, I must tell him. Like Monica once said, if I like someone, I have to tell the person. So ill tell him.

Biting her lips nervously, she opened her phone and sent him a message via WhatsApp. He replied almost immediately:

F: Hey Ada how are you?
A: I’m okay. What about you?
F: oh! Im just getting some work done.
Oh so that’s why he’s still up this late.
A: Okay. That’s good to hear.

Her heartbeat sped up. She had to tell him now. She had to get it off her chest before it killed her. So she took a breath again and typed:

A: Actually, I have something to tell you
F: Okay. Go on. What is it?

Her fingers trembled as she typed: Femi, I like you. She deleted it over and over before writing it again. she didn’t even know when she pressed send. She closed her eyes and felt relieved, like something had been taken off her shoulders. When she took a peep, she saw,

A: Femi, I actually really like you.

And the message was read...

After what felt like waiting for eternity. Her phone let out a ping! She quickly scrambled from the her lyping position on her bed to sit up and hold her phone. She didn’t know what he would say. She felt she shouldn’t have even written it. she opened her phone with a swipe and saw his reply:

F: 😮
F: Wow…
F: I actually don’t know what to say
F: we have to talk about this later
F: maybe tomorrow after class

Ada looked at her phone screen and fell back on her pillow. Thoughts ravaged her mind. What is wrong with him? What does he want to say that he can't say it now? Will he accept? God, why am I thinking so much.
Finally, She typed back to him:

A: Okay.😊
An emoji? Seriously I am losing my mind.

Long story short, lets just say Ada didn’t get any sleep that night.
