Chapter 7 - Just a Hug

Blinking several times, Ada tried to comprehend what she saw. Realization hit her to the core. It shattered her heart in a million pieces. She couldn’t find the words to say. all the words died in her throat.

She looked at him with pain in her eyes as she fought to keep her composure. He continued,
“if I was like very other guy, I wouldn’t have showed you this. I could lie and keep quiet about it but that would make me a useless and irresponsible man. As you can see, I am already engaged to another woman. That’s why I wanted to see you because its not something I could just say over the chat.”

Ada nodded her head in understanding. She gave him back his phone feeling pissed and ashamed at the same time.
“Im sorry Femi. I actually did not know…”
“no, no need to be sorry. You wouldn’t know if I didn’t tell you about it.” He argued softly. Ada could feel her tears threatening to fall.
She was so ashamed of herself that she couldn’t look Femi in the eyes. All that was on her mind was that she had to leave, and quick. But Femi was faster. He held her shoulder softly and eased her face up with his thumb.
“I hope we can still remain good friends Ada. I would not like this to come between our friendship.”

She nodded her head weakly and smiled to assure him that she was alright with it.

He held her hands this time and asked, “before you go, can I just hug you? You know, that we would still be friends” That question made Ada’s ears stand in alert. She nervously shifter to another side and tried to tell him no. But he persisted telling her it was a hug and nothing else .She eyed his waiting open arms and chided herself. Its just a hug. What could be wrong about it?

She walked up lightly and fell into his embrace. It was a lot closer and warmer than she expected. Her mind was racing. She thought it would be a short hug with a pat but this one was getting too long. He wrapped his arms tightly around her which made Ada’s heart beat speed up. A hug meant many things but this one was becoming way intimate than she thought. She quickly struggled to free herself from his arms. He let go of her and looked her again, very intensely.

This time Ada was sure she was going to faint. The heat In her body was becoming a raging fire that she couldn’t explain. She tripped herself to avoid his gaze. “Femi, thanks for everything. I'll be going home now.”

She sidestepped him and began her trekking down the road as fast as she could and only turned back to wave goodbye at him. He waved back, turned the opposite direction and walked away.

When she got home, she kept her face passive so as not to elicit any suspicious comments from her dad. She fled into her room and locked the door.
Sitting down on her bed, she thought hard and long about what happened. She surely did not want to get involved with an engaged man. If she had known she wouldn’t have approached him. Nobody even knew. Nobody could know. A guy like him did not look engaged.
And the hug! It felt like as though it was a promise of more to come. Maybe he liked her. She did not want to be involved with him yet she could feel her heart racing at the mere thought of the hug he gave her.

For a guy who looks so slim, his arms were broad and strong and warm and….
oh get a grip of yourself Ada. We are friends now. Only friends.

But she couldn’t deny wanting another hug from those his strong arms.

In Mile 2, J.K Estate, another troubled mind lay awake.
