Prompt 25: "Your awkwardness to say "I love you" gives me life"

"Did you get my note?" they asked, walking alongside Tamaki to class.
"Yes," he mumbled, scratching the back of his neck bashfully and slouching over a little more as if that could hide the pink on his cheeks. "And the other one, and the one before that," he said. They laughed and hooked their arm with his. "Hey, Y/N?" Tamaki started and they snapped their head up to make eye contact.
"Yeah?"
"Do you, wanna come with me somewhere tonight?" he asked.
"Specifics?" they asked.
"It's a secret," he looked away.
"Sounds scandalous," they wiggled their eyebrows, causing Tamaki's eyes to go wide and his face to go red.
"That's not what I meant!" he started.
"I know, dummy," they reached over and pecked his cheek. "I'll go with you," they said. Tamaki smiled, ready to surprise them.

"Where are we going?" they asked one more time as if Tamaki would tell them.
"It's a secret," he repeated for the sixth time, rolling his eyes.
"I swear, people are gonna think you're kidnapping me," they said, a blindfold over their eyes. They felt Tamaki's hands on their shoulders, guiding them through the subway.
"Shhh," he tutted. Thirty minutes passed and Tamaki led them out of the subway doors, the cool air hitting their bare arms and making them shiver.
"Jeez, it's freezing, where are we?" they asked. Tamaki just put his jacket over their shoulders, not answering the question as he fixed his backpack straps before leading them by the shoulders again.
"Okay, you can take your blindfold off now," said Tamaki. They reached up and tugged the cloth off their face, blinking their eyes open to see the night sky spread out above them. In front was a rundown car with a blanket spread over the top. "I, um. It's not, especially fancy, but I wanted you to see the stars," he mumbled, rubbing his arm shyly. A quiet silence hit them both. "Sorry, I shouldn't have thou-
"Sh," they said. "SH! Tamaki, you're amazing, but shut up," Silence. "I love it," they said after a moment. "I absolutely love it." They stared at the expanse of the night sky, midnight blue dotted with swirling specs of light. The beautiful star dotted blanket above their heads. The wind rustled the trees near them, the cold making them wrap the jacket around themselves tighter.
"I brought food!" Tamaki burst into action, walking over to the car and helping them onto the top where the blanket was spread. He tossed his backpack up after them before crawling on himself. "Um, just a bunch of snacks and some water," he said, ruffling through his bag, his hands shaking.
"Why are you so nervous?" they asked. They'd taken into account all the nervous tics Tamaki had been using throughout the day. He was a nervous person, but not this much around them.
"No reason," Tamaki said, his voice cracking. He winced, pulling out a water bottle and downing half the bottle.
"Come 'ere," They said. Tamaki shifted over and squeaked when they pulled them down, their backs pressed against the blanket with their eyes looking up at the sky. They wrapped their arms around Tamaki, content. Quiet graced them for a bit, comfortable silence blanketing the air. He took a deep breath before turning his head to them, eyes trailing over their face softly before they turned their own head. "Tamaki?" they asked.
"I have," Tamaki started. "Something important to tell you," he said, biting his lip.
"Go on."
"I," he started and stopped.
"You..." they encouraged.
"I," he gulped. They patiently waited.
"You can tell me anything, you know?" they reassured. Tamaki let out a shaky breath before closing his eyes and parting his lips.
"I love you," he said, unable to tear his eyes from their gaze. Their mouth popped open in surprise, eyes opening wider. He immediately looked away after their reaction, turning his body away from them. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything, I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable," he started, the words spilling from his mouth as he felt unholy amounts of dread spread from his center.
"Tamaki," they started.
"Yeah?" he asked, his voice a little quiet.
"Your awkwardness to say "I love you" gives me life," they said. Tamaki felt a blush crawl onto his face, wishing he could crawl up into a ball and disappear.
"Sorr-
"I love you too."
"You do?" he asked, abruptly sitting up and looking at them.
"Yeah," they said, smiling and opening their arms wide. Tamaki fit himself in, eye to eye with them once more. "You're the sweetest most loveliest boy in the world," they said before kissing him softly.
"Thank you," he said, slightly breathless before revelling in the warmth of their bodies pressed together in the cold night.
