BANG!

Another shot sounded, before the jet jolted to the left. Cyrus's arms caught me as I was thrown sideways, his back taking the impact against the cabinets. His posture was as rigid as mine, his breath fanning my face.

I quickly tugged out of his arms and sprinted towards the door, ripping it off the hinges in one kick. The wood crashed down loudly; sickeningly. I stumbled slightly as the jet juddered once more, my heart pounding. Ears ringing. Body shaking.

I quickly scanned the area, my hands trembling as they gripped the gun. Nothing was out of sight. Nothing was in sight. Just...nothing.

I flinched as a warm, large hand wrapped around my waist, tensing up. In three sharp moves I took the person down, jabbing their side and flipping them over. It wasn't until I had my gun pointed at their head, and my foot on their chest, that I realised who it was.

"Shoot! Cyrus!" I hissed, holding out a hand to tug him up again. His eyes were wide as they stared up at me. He held up a finger, taking short, sharp gasps.

"You knocked all the air out of my lungs." He choked under his breath. Taking my hand, he hauled himself up before revealing a blade I didn't even know he was carrying. The jet was tilting firmly to the left, travelling at an alarming speed.

"Right." He whispered, almost as a statement. Our eyes fixed back on the situation in front of us. Except...silence.

SMASH!

The door to the pilot's cockpit suddenly came crashing down, flying to the side of the jet and smashing into the glass table. Bits of glass flew everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.

My hands gripped onto the cold, hard metal of my gun. Although, it wasn't mine, really. For a moment I couldn't help but frown. Why had I become so attached to a weapon?

"Miss me?"

My eyes snapped up, my thoughts getting cut off mercilessly. They grew horrifically wide at the person in front of us. His grin was manically painted on his face. It didn't seem right.

My ears clanged even louder as I took in his expression, before my eyes drifted down to his hands. My heart stopped.

"What the-"

"Aaron?" My croaked voice cut off Cyrus pathetically. I cleared my throat as the enemy sent me a wink.

"Aaron." I repeated, spitting the name out like poison. He shook his head at me, taking a step closer as the jet began diving down. Cyrus leapt in front of me, his muscles taught.

My mind whirred as we all stumbled from the jet's jagged path. The atmosphere was harshly interrupted by wailing alarms, the whole cabin flashing red.

Aaron took another step forward, twirling the gun in his hands and looking me dead in the eye.

"Be careful of who you trust, Kayla."

BANG!

The gun shot drifted through my ears, clashing with the jet's sirens painfully. Cyrus's body momentarily coated my vision. My whole body shook as I tried to get my fingers to work. Tried to get them to pull the trigger.

Within seconds, however, Aaron had sprinted to the door, ripping it open. It was only then that I realised he had a parachute strapped to his back.

"Sweet dreams." He shouted over the roar of the engines. The wind rushing into the cabin. The wailing alarms. My pounding heart.

I rushed towards him just as he leapt out; but not before sending me a wink, his dark eyes twinkling. I staggered back, my head screaming.

Wait.

I had heard a gunshot.

My eyes flew back to Cyrus, who was doubled over, his hands gripping his blade so hard that I wasn't sure if it would shatter. I rushed over to him the best I could, the jet's juddering swoop causing me to lose all sense of balance.

"Cyrus!" I screamed. His head flicked up, his face contoured with pain. He dropped his blade and leant forward, grabbing hold of my wrist and pulling me towards him. Cyrus's eyes were hollow as they pleaded into mine, his face urgent.

"In the...the bedroom. He managed to grind out. "Second parachute. Se...secret. Behind drawers."

His hand cupped my face - his other one gripping onto his leg. My vision clouded with something. Tears? I never cried.

Never.

"Cyrus, your leg is losing too much blood." I choked out, trying not to focus on the oozing substance as it pooled out under the red lighting. Cyrus's hand forced my chin up gently, his eyes firm and pained at the same time.

"You're more important than my leg."

"I can't j-"

"Go." He demanded, as the lights flickered out. As the screaming plane began to nosedive. As my heart shattered into a million pieces.

My head snapped up.

My trembling, numb fingers snatched around Cyrus's wrist and yanked him with me towards the cockpit. I ignored all his pathetic attempts to stop me, pulling him along with strength I didn't realise I had.

A grinding sound echoed through the jet as we reached it, and I finally let go of Cyrus's wrist, my hands coated with sweat. I heard him let out a gasping breath, his hand tugging me slightly.

"Kayla!" He pleaded.

I shook off his hand and pushed the pilot's dead body out of the way, my hands gripping around the controls. With tears streaming down my cheeks, I looked up to the fate that would await us. We were heading straight towards an empty beach.

Everything around me silenced as I grappled with the controls, pressing buttons and pulling things that I knew. That I could control.

I yanked the yoke as we came towards the barren, deserted land, causing the jet's steep descent to change course slightly. The nose of the jet tilted up, the whole body of the jet swooping up slightly. Levelling out.

I directed the jet with all my might, my throat aching as we neared the beach. I tried to focus on the task at hand as I felt warm fingers slip around my waist and a pair of lips on the back of my neck.

"Goodbye Kayla." They whispered, moving against my skin.

"No!" I screamed. "I can fix this!"

"I love you."

Cyrus's voice drifted through my ears as the plane soared towards the sand, my mind blanking.

"I love you too." I choked out, my hands never leaving the controls. My eyes never leaving the destination in front of me.

All of a sudden I felt two hands yank me down, into a warm lap. They cradled me safely as the jet let out a sickening crash.

Then, darkness descended over my vision.
