*~*~*~*~*
Cyrus slammed his piece down on the board, causing the paper money to scatter across it.
"How did you win again?"
I shrugged, my grin threatening to show.
"It's a gift."
"Gift." He scoffed under his breath, his grey eyes sparkling blue. He leaned over me and grabbed some money from the banker's stash, shoving it in his pile. "There - count the money again."
"You can't do that!" I admonished, my eyes wide.
"It's called a loan, beautiful." Cyrus informed me, beginning to add up his stolen cash. I stretched towards him and snatched some up, shoving it back in the box's lid.
"Not in this game, it's not." I retorted. "Accept defeat, sucker - I won fair and square."
Cyrus shot me an incredulous look.
"Okay, let me get this straight." He started. "So you get to 'hack into the bank's details' and nab this whole lane," he gestured towards the board where most of my houses lay. "fire the mayor of this town and take his place," - cue a pointed look to one of the sections - "and nick some of my houses due to a 'high court ruling', but I can't take a loan?"
I chewed on my lip. This is how normal people played board games, wasn't it?
"Well when you put it like that, it does sounds a bit sketchy..." I murmured, before looking into Cyrus's amused eyes and tightening my ponytail. "But I'm the banker anyways, so I'll just pay some people to beat you up if you complain, alright?"
He let out a deep chuckle.
"I don't think monopoly works like that, sweetheart."
"Sure it does!" I insisted. "Bankers are rich, right?"
He shook his head slightly, leaning back against the wall.
"Do you want to play another round?"
"I think three games is enough for my ego tonight." Cyrus scoffed, getting up from the floor. "Come on - I'll take you somewhere."
"Where?" I questioned, standing up and following Cyrus out of the living room.
"Somewhere."
"So helpful." I muttered sarcastically, watching him grab his jacket and slip it on.
"You got a sweater or something?" He asked, eyeing my bare arms.
"Sweater?" I frowned, before nodding. "Oh, you mean jumper."
"You do?"
"No."
He raised an eyebrow at me, before rolling his eyes and grabbing a leather jacket off the coat hook, chucking it at me.
"Here."
I caught it swiftly and pulled it on, laughing when I saw how far the sleeves came down over my hands. Dereck's son took a step towards me and grabbed the sleeves, folding them up until my hands were visible. I clenched my jaw.
Dereck's son. Dereck's son.
I watched as he took a step back again and whistled, causing Spike to come bounding down the stairs towards us. The dog's tongue wagged as Cyrus gave him a pat, before he unlocked the front door. He held it open for me and I swallowed, stepping out into the cooler air.
