*~*~*~*~*
I spun around, the world seeming to freeze as my eyes locked with two grey crystals. My whole body shivered as I drank in his appearance; worn. Tired. Stressed. Wild.
My chest heaved up and down as I stared at him, my gaze drifting down his face. His lips twitched and I snapped out of my trance, my shaking hands whipping down to my hip. I pulled up my shirt and unlocked my gun in the blink of an eye, targeting it towards someone's head.
Alejandro's head.
I registered Cyrus's eyebrows raise slightly, as Alejandro momentarily froze in shock. My hand shook as I pointed the barrel in the direction of his forehead, my hands clammy and hot.
There was a second of silence before six other guns were aimed in my direction, all grasped by six tense men. I heard Cyrus let out a quiet growl as he glared at them, but my eyes stayed fixed on my target.
"No-one raises a gun to her."
The command fell on deaf ears. A couple of men hesitated, but uniformly retained their positions. My heartbeat thumped in my ears as my whole body roared in anger and confusion.
Betrayal.
"PUT YOUR GUNS DOWN!"
Cyrus's voice boomed in the warehouse. I flinched unconsciously - a movement which didn't go unnoticed. My heart skipped a beat as he strode in my direction, my peripheral vision picking up on his presence. Cyrus's body shielded mine as he turned on his heel to face his men, crossing his arms.
My lungs were flooded with his cologne and I choked, breaking my solid form briefly.
"Forget splash it on - you've marinated in that stuff!" I coughed, wafting a hand around my face. My gun jiggled slightly, its opponent relaxing. Alejandro let out a laugh, his anxious, hazel eyes softening. Cyrus turned to glance at me, his eyebrow raised.
The relieved atmosphere in the room didn't last long.
I stiffened up at the sight of his tanned, sharp face. He clenched his jaw, his eyes filling with stormy emotion as my grin flashed into a frown. I grasped my gun tighter.
"You lied to me."
The words echoed around the warehouse for a few minutes. No-one dared to move. Dared to speak. Dared to counteract my judgement.
Alejandro sighed, causing me to inhale a shaky breath. His crisp suit suddenly appeared to resemble a disguise. What was he? A spy? An enemy agent?
How could I be so stupid?
Cyrus must have noticed my glazed over expression, as he turned to face me completely, scanning my features. He went to step closer and I leapt back, as if he were going to torch me.
"Kayl-"
"Don't touch me!" I shouted, border-hysterical. Dereck's son withdrew his hand, his black eyes closing for a second. I took this second of freedom to scan the room. All eyes were on us.
All eyes were on me.
The rigid men watched me warily, as if I were a ticking time bomb. Some looked confused. Irritated. Impatient.
I looked back towards Alejandro. He stood with his hands to his side - so I could see them. His dark hair was messy for once. His eyes were tired and wary. He could have dismantled my weapon several times now. But he hadn't.
And I wanted to know why.
"Answer me!" I commanded, my voice breaking slightly. The words pounded around the room, colliding with everyone's eardrums. The gun in my hand shook as I stood there, my forehead creasing. Alejandro's forehead scrunched up slightly, as if he didn't quite know what to say.
"You lied to me!" I shouted, my tone accusatory. Angry tears of frustration threatened to cloud my vision as they welled up in my eyes.
I never trusted anyone. But I had trusted him. I had trusted Cyrus. I had trusted Alejandro's plan.
What happened to the girl who never even left her pencil lying around? Who watched everyone with a wary eye? Who never let anyone get too close? Who was never caught off guard?
I was. I was caught off guard. And I hated it.
"ANSWER ME!" I screamed at the spies. The double agents. Had Grant lied to me too? Had anyone else?
