"You WHAT?" Sirius cried, jumping back and flapping his wings in surprise. "Why!?"
"Like I said before," Fog said, forcing his face to stay looking innocent, despite the self-accusation. "I did it to get into the Treasury,"
"Fog," Cumulus started, stepping up to her son with a motherly worry expression on her face. "Why did you need to get into the Treasury? There's nothing in there to benefit you,"
"You want to know why?" Fog repeated the question back. "I was looking for something,"
He wasn't lying, that was for sure. Though Fog did not enjoy seeing the looks of confusion that spread across the snouts of Sandstorm, Sirius, and Cumulus. He reminded himself that it would all be worth it in the end. All he needed to do was be vague enough to make them realize that questioning him would get them nowhere, and he would be free to carry out his plan on finding Summit and Downpour and turn them in.
"What were you looking for?" Sandstorm asked, narrowing his eyes at Fog.
"Something important," Fog answered, shaking his wings out.
"Did you find this something?" Cumulus asked. Fog noticed how her teeth were clenched.
"Sort of," Fog replied, waving a talon at the Treasury. "Kinda lost it, though. I'm not too sure where it is now. I know I lost it in the Treasury, though,"
"What was it?" Sirius asked, his voice shaking. He looked ready to cry.
"Something important," Fog repeated.
"Fog," Cumulus nearly growled. "What. Was. It?"
"Like I said, something important," Fog said once more, forcing a straight face onto his snout. "But I lost it in the treasury, so I wasn't able to get it,"
"Fog, you know the repercussions of breaking into the Treasury," Sandstorm stated. "Dragons can get executed for it,"
"But I didn't get anything, so I have nothing to be killed for. And I didn't kill anyone," Fog argued. "Yes, I broke into the Treasury, but the most I did was look around for it. I thought I saw it, but I lost it in the mess,"
"Fog!" Sirius cried, making Fog and Cumulus jump. "I know you're an outcast-ish type, but this? This is outlandish! Even for you,"
"I guess you don't know me as well as you think, brother," Fog said, sending a toothy smile to Sirius. Sirius let out an exasperated and upset gasp, then turned and flew out of the mountain.
"Huh," Fog said out loud. "He flew away. I wonder why..."
"Fog, please be serious about this," Cumulus stated, taking one of Fog's misty talons in her own. "You may be my son, but you know I have to punish you. You are confined to the Royal island until further notice. If anyone catches you leaving, your punishment will be changed to cleaning out the dungeons. Got it?"
"Of course," Fog said, raising his other talon to clasp Cumulus' talon in both of his. "Someone who does wrong must be punished after all,"
Cumulus blinked twice, looking confused and disgruntled. She cleared her through and nodded. "Very well. Now go. Me and Sandstorm need to tend to these guards,"
Fog nodded and began to fly out of the mountain. He heaved a large sigh of relief. At least he wasn't confined into an underground cell, unable to investigate. Fog figured that being confined to his home island wouldn't be so bad. After all, it was the best spot he would be able think of to start his search.
Fog flew out of an archway into the open air. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, turning the sky a brilliant golden hue. Fog leveled his wings in order to hover, wondering where to search first.
