The smell of pancakes snakes through the house and slips under the bedroom door. The soft hum of my beautiful Dahlia's voice fills the kitchen. I push the silk sheets back, the sleek material slipping off my pale legs.
I slide myself off of the edge of the bed standing up to follow the scent of pancakes. I run my hand along the wall as I walk through the hall and step into the kitchen. The radio is on, playing Here, by Alessia Cara. I look over and see Dahlia moving her hips in time with the music and humming along, pushing the spatula under the pancakes in the pan and flipping them. I walk over and pop a blueberry in my mouth. Dae notices I'm up and a large grin creeps across her face.
"Good morning, gorgeous!" She says cheerily. She reaches over and grabs my waist and pulls me in for a firm hug.
"Watch the food, Dae!" I tease. A sarcastic smile covers her face and she throws a blue berry at me. We both giggle and I go over and fill Sirius' bowl with his food. "Is London up yet?" I ask my girlfriend, she keeps her eyes on the food.
"Um, I'm not sure. She hasn't come out yet so, maybe? But she brung someone home last night, I think..." She replies with uncertainty. London is mine and Dahlia's roommate. Dahlia is the love of my life, I've been with her for 6 years. I met her when I was first coming out eight years ago. I was sexually confused and when I had finally figured I was a lesbian I wanted to buy a book on how to come out to everyone. So, eight years ago I walked into this small book shop across from my favourite coffee shop. It was small, but perfect. There was a small reading corner in said shop, and it was nothing short of cozy and lovely. It was late autumn, so it was quite chilly, as of such, I got a salted caramel latte and walked over to the petite book shop. I immediately took a liking to the cashier, she was this tall, tan, lean, dark haired beauty. She had her feet lazily resting on the counter, reading Harry Potter. I pointed at her book and said, "That's an amazing book! Good find!" The girl looked up at me, smiled and replied.
"Yeah, I love J.K Rowling's works. I've read them over and over! Can I help you with anything, beautiful?" When she called me beautiful, my hear started beating at a thousand miles an hour.
"It's kinda embarrassing, actually..." I replied shyly, my face going hot with colour. "What is is beautiful? We're all friends here." She took her feet off of the desk and put her book down - face down - on the desk. She stood up and I saw her at her full height. "Well," I said, clutching my cup tighter. "I'm actually looking for a book..." I paused. "To help me come out..." She thought for a moment, then nodded and asked me to follow her. She showed me to a small shelf that had books all about LGBTQ+. I grabbed a book with a rainbow cover and skimmed through it quickly. It was absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. I held to book to my chest and walk back up to the counter where she was back in the same position reading her book. I put down the rainbow book on the counter and she peeked over her own book.
"That's a good read!" She said enthusiastically. I blushed as she scanned the book and I handed her a ten dollar bill. She wrote something on a peice of paper quickly and slipped it into the cover. She looked at me and said, "The name's Dahlia." I looked at her eyes, so sparkly and warm.
"Lillian. My names Lillian."
"What a beautiful name, Lillian. It's lovely to meet you." She replied with a cheeky grin.
I walked out of the shop and opened the cover, pulled out the paper and it had her number on it and underneath that it said 'Dahlia, the cutie at the book shop.'
