After being tossed back and forth between the prep team for a few hours I felt more like a rag doll than a human. I was stripped from my own skin with a thick lemony foam that seemed to rip off four or five layers of it. After plucking me like a chicken, they turned my nails into uniform shape in colors of black and silver. Then they placed a machine that weighed 50 pounds on my head that turned my straight night black hair to perfected curls. I touched my hair rubbing the perfect spirals in my hand. I had bleached my hair pale blonde every month when my grandfather was alive to represent the Snow family which had a history of pale blonde hair. Grandpa blamed it on my dad for the dark hair. I liked my natural hair color, and I was starting to realize that a lot of things my grandfather told me not to do, I loved.

After being deemed as "done" from the prep team, my stylist finally came out to meet me. I gasped when I saw her, "Angela!" I shrieked with excitement, running into her arms as she wrapped her arms tightly around her waist. Angela had been my personal assistant when grandpa was still alive. Grandpa called her servant, a filthy nasty name that Angela didn't deserve. Instead, I treated her like a friend, sister, and most importantly, an equal.

There was a muffled noise that sounded like "Alice!". I pulled away from her questions filling my mind but she placed her finger on my lips. "Let's get you dressed up first, that's priority number one".

The dress that Angela pulled out from the closet was more beautiful than I could've ever imagined. It wasn't that the design was that amazing, it was the message behind it. For the first Capitol Games, all tributes were supposed to wear white and their rank color to represent the new Panem. The dress that Angela pulled out was a midnight black one. I stared at the black silk fabric that was a slit in the front but long in the back. Covering the top bodice of the dress was a silver velvet top that sparkled like diamonds. Angela helped me into the gorgeous dress then slipped the velvet over the top of my dress.

"Tribute Parade begins in 15 minutes, all tributes please report to the stables to be paired with your horses," Katniss Everdeen said over the intercom, "Thank you, and even though this is impossible, have fun! You only will experience this once". I took one last look in the mirror and prepared to leave when Angela caught my arm.

"Wait! I have something else for you" she said then opened a small black box. Inside was a small black rose embedded with diamonds with leaves made out of real silver. Angela slid the hairpin into place then smiled, "Perfect. That will also serve perfectly as a token!". I thanked her quickly and gave her a hug before dashing out of the room and into the elevator slamming right into Jake.

"Woah!" Jake said after being assaulted.

"Sorry" I mumbled rubbing my arm which had hit the glass wall of the elevator pretty hard. That's when I noticed how attractive Jake looked in his costume. An all-white tuxedo with a glistening silver tie. "You look great" I stuttered feeling the heat crawling up my neck.

"Thanks, but what the hell are you wearing?" he asked, his eyes popping out at my outfit. "They could kill you for wearing black instead of white!".

"Thanks for the warning Jake, but they can't! Because the district citizens want to see me, the daughter of President Snow suffer in the Games. They can't do anything to me". The elevator jolted to a stop and my hairpin slid out due to the strong impact. That's when I got a good look at the token and realized what powerful message it showed.

It showed that the rebels didn't own me by not displaying their color, but most importantly, it showed that grandpa didn't own me. I am Alice Snow, no one could control me.
