I was shaken awake frantically by Tessa.

"Wake up! Footsteps are coming this way" she whispered into my ear harshly dragging me up and higher in the tree. B'/y the time the footsteps had arrived too us, Tessa, Henry, and I were well concealed in the tree.

"I swear, that was her voice" a gruff familiar voice rang through the air. I couldn't help peeking and almost gasp when I see the distraught sleep deprived Jake with an equally exhausted Rebecca, Brian, and another boy, rank 10 I believe.

"Oh my god" I whispered and Tessa hugged me closer in sympathy. Not only did Jake not team up with me, he was after me.

Watch your back because your the first I'll get in there!

That was his threat on the night of the interview, and he was going to fulfill it if I made even one noise. Jake looked up towards the tree and pointed. "Somethings odd about that high branch in the middle. Simon, you took the tree climbing course, go check out whats up there" Jake ordered as if he were any better. The words made me curl my fists and glare. Tessa armed herself with her bow and arrows and as the boy climbed up the tree shaking off the protective snow covering us, I picked up my knives unwillingly. The boy was 3 feet, 2 feet, 1 feet. Tessa let the arrow fly and stabbed him in the right thigh. The boy screamed and fell down the tree.

"Tessa!" I hissed in annoyance. I didn't want to hurt the boy. The crowd below gasped and Jake pulled out his sword advancing the tree.

"I know you're up there you little snitch!" Jake yelled. "Come down, let's have a proper match, just you and me. Then when I kill you, you can rot your body in the capitol, just like your grandfather!" The comment almost got me jumping out of the tree. Then I remembered to control my anger and stayed silent.

"Fine! Burn down the tree!" Jake yelled slapping Rebecca on the arm with authority. I heard the snipping of wood being chipped together and a surge of anger pulsed through me forcing me to stand. I grabbed my knives and jumped down from the tree on impulse.

"Well look! Royalty has arrived. What took you so long princess" Rebecca sneered. I ignored Rebecca's taunts and trained my eyes on Jake. He looked so tired as if 3/4 of his life was drained, yet he still talked to me as if he was at his best.

"I'm sorry I had you waiting so long sir Jake. You asked to fight the queen?" I sneered pulling out my knives. A hint of fear flashed in Jake's eyes, even Katniss would know to stay out of my way with knives. Jake held his sword a bit higher for protection. Even Rebecca and Brian backed up a bit.

Jake stepped forward frowning confidently. Just then Tessa and Henry lowered themselves off the tree and rushed towards me.

"Three on three it is then," Tessa said firmly standing by my side. I wanted to shoo her away to safety but it was selfishly comforting to have your friends fight by your side, especially if you were going to die.

Jake blinked, "Rebecca, Brian..." he started but was cut off by Brian.

"Oh no way young bro, you're on your own," he said before putting an arm around Rebecca and turning around. There was no trust or friendship in that trio at all. I felt sympathetic, but at the same time knew Jake was asking for it, teaming up with those users.

"Ok... three on one then," Tessa said confused at Brian's response.

Not all friendships are perfect like us Tessa

Tessa pulled back and fired an arrow that narrowly missed Jake's right shoulder. Jake charged pulling Henry down and slicing his leg open with the sword. Tessa screamed kicking Jake full in the face. Jake pulled back as if someone was yanking him up.

"Henry!" Tessa screamed over her limp cousin's body. Henry sat up his eyes charged with adrenaline. He pushed away his cousin before lunging at Jake. The two boys wrestled on the ground with weapons, Henry's ax versus Jake's sword. Finally, Jake punched Henry in his injured knee and stabbed his sword into Henry's stomach. The piercing scream from Tessa could be heard from miles. I shoved Jake off Henry and punched him in the face before I started pummeling him rapidly.

"GET. THE. HELL. OUT. OF. HERE. RIGHT. NOW." I screamed each word emphasized as I punched him in the chest pushing him backward. When Jake didn't move I took Tessa's bow and arrows and blindly fired them at him, the arrow lodged deeply in his right shoulder. He gasped in pain and Rebecca and Brian finally ran over to pull out the arrow and examine their younger ally.

"YOU IDIOT! YOU WANTED TO FIGHT ME! WHY DID YOU TARGET HENRY?" I howled I loaded another arrow and the trio rushed away running across the field leaving the dead body of Simon with us. Despite the distance, I shot another arrow. I kept shooting far after they were gone down the mountain to kill off the evil spirits that still existed.

I turned towards the sobbing Tessa and unconscious Henry. I placed my hand on his heart and waited. 1 second, 2 seconds, 3 seconds... no heartbeat.
