Anna

"Chrom, where are you taking me?" I asked as Chrom led me through the city, blindfolded.

"You'll see, love!" Chrom chuckled, gripping my hand tighter.

By the sounds of the hustle and bustle of people, I could tell that we were in the Shopping District. Oh boy... What does he have planned? Soon, the scent of gingerbread and peppermint began to overwhelm my senses.

"Here we are!" Chrom removed the blindfold.

I gasped at the sight in front of me. It was the Swirls and Pearls Bakery! The one I've always wanted to go to! How did he find out that I wanted to go here?! "Chrom! H-how did you-"

He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and pulled me close. "I saw the way you looked at this place whenever we came to the Shopping District." He kissed my cheek. "I made reservations and ordered us a private tasting room so we can finally have some alone time. And so no one can interrupt us while we eat cake."

I was speechless.

"Chrom..." I wrapped my arms around him and hugged him tightly. "Thank you so much! I don't think I have loved you more than I do right now!"

He laughed and grabbed my wrists. "Haha! Well, I'm glad to hear that, then." He smiled. "Shall we go in?"

I smiled back and took his hand. "Yes, let's."

...

"...I think I've died and gone to cake heaven." I drooled as a decadent chocolate cake covered in powdered sugar was set down on our table. The waiter smiled and bowed before he left.

"Please don't die, Anna. We still need to get married and I kinda need you to be alive for that!" Chrom chuckled, taking my hand. I was barely paying attention to him. I was too distracted by cake.

A few moments later, I felt him rub his thumb over my engagement ring. I looked up and saw that he had a gentle yet sorrowful smile on his face. A face I knew very well. "What are you thinking about?" I asked him.

Chrom sighed and shook his head. "N-nothing... Just how happy I am to be here with you..." he replied, his voice broken and quiet.

I rolled my eyes and gripped his hand. "Chrom, I can read you like a book. What's wrong?"

He didn't say anything for about a minute; he just sat there, staring at my engagement ring. Then, he decided to speak up. "It's been over a year since I proposed to you... I promised you that we would be married as soon as the war was over, but it's been months since we won! And I couldn't even spend the entire holiday season with you..." He began to cry. "I've made you wait so long for everything... I can't keep my promises... How can you love a man who barely has time for his beloved?"

My heart shattered at his words. I took a deep breath and squeezed his hand. "I know you're busy. I know you have duties to your kingdom. You couldn't have predicted that all of this would happen. I know that you're going through a really hard time right now, and I want to be here to support you through it." I moved closer to him until I was sitting in his lap. "I can wait. I WILL wait. Sure, I want nothing more than for us to be married, but I know that I can be patient.

"And I know that you're doing your best to squeeze in whatever time you have with me. Never think that I will stop loving you. My love for you grows every single day. I know that we will be married soon. The right time will come. But for now, all we can do is wait."

Chrom pulled me into a tight hug and pressed his forehead against mine. "I love you so much... You truly are a gift sent from the gods... I don't know what I would do without you..."

I giggled. "And neither do I." I pulled away and smiled. "Now, that's enough moping. It's cake time!"

Chrom laughed and pressed a quick kiss to my temple. "Very well, my princess. Your wish is my command."
