One Month Later

I walk towards the entrance of St. Mary's Hospital. I see the door is wedged open and I push it open gently so not to disturb anyone that may be here, or any infected. I listen, no noise. I throw a brick to alert any person of my presence and I hear nothing, so I decide to head for the stairs. I go up to the west wing and I find empty beds and what looks like a disturbed surgery. I look at the bed, an abandoned anesthetic station and a breathing mask left on the side of the bed. I see a tray with a injection holding some liquid and I pick it up, finding it labeled 'euthanasia'. I notice the three bodies then, they're all skeletons now, but they still have their surgeons uniforms on. I look at the bodies before walking towards the door opposite me and I head towards pandemics.

"This place got fucked up..." I say looking at the childrens toys. I head towards the elevator and find that it doesn't work. I take to the stairs and head down to the car park. I walk down onto the large underground car park and I see theres only a few cars, most of them look like army cars, all parked up in one corner, theres Firefly symbols everywhere, all over and even on the cars. I see a skeleton in the middle of the floor, a lot of dried blood surrounding it. I look at the body, a bullet through its brain and there seems to be one in its stomach. I step away and then I look to my left and see a large spray painted message on the wall.

'MARLENE DIED FOR THE IMMUNE GIRL. WHO WAS TAKEN BY A MAD MAN'

I gulp as I look down at the body and I step back.

"Marlene...." I gasp and I feel my eyes start to water and I start to fall backwards, landing on my ass and I curl up in a ball and cry into my knees.

I walk away from the hospital, looking at the large water filled area me and Joel came up from not too long ago.

I sigh and walk away, towards the cities exit and I look at the Firefly symbols as I go, more tears falling down my cheeks.

"Why aren't you still here...what made you move?" I ask, putting my hand over a red spray painted symbol.

I sigh, looking round and I head out the abandoned military gates, jogging as I do so. I rush along the road and then I take out my map.

I see Salt Lake City, which is where I am, and I run my finger along the map to Sacramento. I fold the map back up, knowing I'm going to have to cross the dessert of Nevada to get to California. I find Route 80 quickly enough, checking all the cars to see if they work.

"Why don't any of you fuckers work?" I mutter as I turn the engine over on a car and it doesn't work. I move to the next one, the sky turning grey as I do so and I clamber into a car just in time for the rain to start pouring. I turn over the engine and it stutters to life.

"Fuck yeah!" I grin as I look over the car, its another pickup truck, these cars must be durable.

I pull away from the side of the road and start driving along Route 80. I sigh, seeing signs for Nevada already.

"I need some more food..." I mutter, looking at my backpack slung onto the passenger seat. I adjust my rear-view mirror and then I scan it before driving at a nice speed. I use my free hand to take a tin of pineapple out of my backpack and I sigh, wondering when I should stop to eat, soon I hope.

"Here seems a good enough spot" I say, pulling over. I look to my left and see the Great Salt Lake shimmering in the darkening day. I use my switchblade to cut into the pineapples and then I use it to eat. I quickly finish it as I'm hungry and then I dispose of the tin by throwing it out the window. I start up the engine again and pull off, driving along the small bridge towards the next place on my map, which happens to be a nature parks of the USA map, Timpie Springs Water flow Management Area.

"Shit..." I mutter as I spot infected ahead, clickers, their bodies jerking in awkward, inhumane movements as they go. I decide it'll be easier to just run them down, so I put my foot on it, knocking them out in a swift movement, body parts and guts smashing over the car. I flick on the windscreen wiper and then I keep driving.

My body shudders as I hear a loud scream rip through my ears. Its not a human scream, its infected. I look over my shoulder out the back and see what I really don't need to see, about 6 runners, 4 clickers and....holy shit....a bloater. I slam my foot on the gas and I speed along the road, they're still following, so when they get close, I slam on the break and they smash into the car, knocking a few down. I also, then reverse back, knocking down the clickers, and most of the runners. Then I hear a bloater spore sack smash onto the bed, hitting off the tailgate first. I push down hard on the gas again and eventually I lose the bloater because of my speed. I relax instantly and decide to call it a night. I pull over, turning off the engine and I lock the doors, making sure I'm certain and I curl up on the back seat, pulling my blanket on over me, using my backpack as a pillow.

Goodnight world.

And thats a wrap!
